We were in town for a wedding and given the short trip, we really crammed in our visit to Morimoto. We went in for a late dinner when the place wasn't terribly packed (it was a Saturday night) so we didn't have to wait at all for a table. We sat at the sushi bar and got the and one of the omakase (~$100pp). We got to watch the sushi chefs prepare our dishes. The fish there is incredibly fresh and for the first time ever, I had fresh wasabi (and it was AMAZING). I was blown away by the yellowtail tartare. We were afraid that we'd be hungry after the omakase but the portions were perfect and by the end, we were stuffed.

The rooms and song selection were fine with me. But the service--ohhh, the service. They are such money-hungry jerks!  They wouldn't take small groups because they wanted to make more money off larger groups.  My friend and I were fortunate enough to meet a nice group of 4 (who they wouldn't take, either) to make it 6 of us, after which the workers magically found us a room.  I didn't have to pay, (thank you awesome random people we met) but I believe they charged extra since we were a large group, too!  It was a fun night, but the process of getting the room was such a hassle, and their motivations were so blatantly selfish--I would not want to come here again. Five stars for the fun company, negative 4 for the lengths we had to go to to get a room!

Ummm...I can finally have a vodka soda on Divis without bringing it with me from home? WOOHOO! For that alone, Waziema gets 3 stars! But that's where the star power begins to dwindle for me. A couple of us have been meaning to check out Waziema, so last night after Farmerbrown, we headed over with several Rateclubers in tow. This is clearly where the hipster youth from Fly come when they want to get ethnic and go full-bar. They make up 99% of the bar population. That's ok: I've decided they're cute and harmless. The wallpaper is, indeed, interesting but I'm not as wild about the psychadelic-victorian decor as other Rateclubers appear to be. If you are claustrophobic or tripping on mushrooms, Waziema's probably not the place for you. Service was ever-so-spotty. We waited FOREVER to order and to get our check but the servers were nice, efficient, and not too chatty. The food presentation was fine- a big, huge tray for 4 (I passed on actually eating as I had played piggy earlier in the afternoon) with PILES of injera. They are very very generous with the breads of Ethiopia in these parts. The few bites I had were tasty but unremarkable compared to ethiopian I've had in the past. Drue and I had pear cyder and it arrived lukewarm, which completely defeats the purpose of ordering cyder. They have a LOT of beers on offer, including 4 or 5 african beers that the boys had and appeared to enjoy, although one bottle looked like it swam across the ocean itself to get to our table. Seating's not so comfortable and the front dining room is cramped, crowded, and loud. There's a big back room that I intend to explore on my next visit. Until then, 3 stars for hard liquor, okay food, and a decent vibe.
