One of my favorite stories was born here. About 6 years ago, I came here with my friend so and so, let's call her Donna to protect her privacy.  We came to see Los Pinguos, a band composed of five rather healthy looking Argentinian brothers whom we had been favorably impressed with after hearing them perform on 3rd Street. I went with pure motives to enjoy the music only.  Others wanted other things. Yes. Lots of women showed up.  Lots of women who probably hate music. The band takes the stage. Sings. Strums guitars. Looks soulful.  Makes beautiful music. The five brothers' girlfriends make their presence unmistakably known as they should, as any prudent male musician's girlfriend should. They are blameless, and I do not blame them. No one blames them. Some clearly wish them dead though. During a break, one of these brothers or cousins or whatever they are comes and sits on one of the couches with my pal (!!!)  I'm in the bathroom or fixin' to get a drink or something. I see them chatting and I'm just DYING to know what words passed between mi amiga and this gaucho from the pamplas. Did they speak of amour? Did he ask her what time it was? Did she say it's time for us to fall in love? So many questions. I wait a decent interval until he leaves and then I head on over nosy like a MOFO. Dying I tell you like a senior citizen sitting on a porch. DYING MUST KNOW ALL NOW. This was the conversation that passed between them: Brother: (Sitting. Silent. Hanging out with an acquaintance). Nods to Donna as a patron. Donna: (Seizing the Day like nobody's business) So, have you played at Little Temple before? Brother: yes Donna: Maybe one day you guys will be big enough to play at Temple Bar. Brother: We have. Many times. Excuse me. Donna: (Ah shit. Dios mio). True Story. Lesson being don't try to tell an artist he hasn't made it yet. He will make tracks and you will be sitting on a couch alone.  And your friend will have a story she likes to tell even 6 years later. Got it? Don't worry Donna has recovered and is now happily living under an assumed name in Los Angeles, California. For Donna: http://www.youtube.com... Los Pinguos: http://www.youtube.com... I had been excited about trying this place for sometime, I liked the idea of how the menu was prepared as other reviewers have mentioned focusing on local and organic products. To start out the experience my date and I had a glass of wine at the bar, while waiting for our seat. The bartender was great about pouring out many different tastings of their somewhat limited "by-the-glass" list, until my date found the right one. Even though I feel the by-the-glass was somewhat limiting, their wine by the bottle list was very adequate with a wide variety in both wines and prices. After seating there we began to par-ooze the menu, which was actually quite extensive for something that changes nightly. The beet salad I had was nothing that I will walk away from craving but the entree is another matter. I was in the mood for some fish and selected the striped bass as recommended by my server. This dish is cooked in a clay pot in the "wood fire", it was filled with different rooted vegetables, clams, and their own chorizo and a broth. I can only say it was some of the best comfort food I have ever had, and I didn't even know that striped bass could be considered for comfort food. I was a little turned off by the ambiance personally, it didn't feel as warm and cozy as I thought it would, but this isn't because of the personalities there, the staff were great, and they all seemed genuine and happy to be there, making the experience that much btter.

The only bowling alley I've ever been to with a dress code...this is definitely not your typical bowling alley. But this place is very easy on the eye. I was surprised to learn that the bathrooms are supplied with black toilet paper with designs...nope, this is definitely not your typical bowling alley. I like the private room(s) available and I love the way the DJ is stationed at the top of the building. Once my friends and I picked our jaws up off the ground after learning that bowling is $55/hr during the day and $80/hr at night (with a 6-person maximum! how dare?!) we left. But I will surely be back once my pockets get a little fatter. :-)
