This place was definitely a surprise.  Went on a Saturday night and Chuck Love happened to be DJing. PRICE:  Cover was $10 before 11PM.  I would think it changes with who is DJing, but I could be wrong.  As for drink prices, I think they may have been indexed to Sweet Crude Oil and fluctuated as such, see below. VENUE:  Simple, warehouse like space.  Looks like they bought 1 or 2 store fronts, gutted them, and turned it into a night club.  More on the industrial side of things but the lighting is really nice on the inside.  The place is basically a dance floor with a few tables around the outside (btw, the tables were not for table service and were open to anyone). Believe it or not the music was not intolerably loud.  You could actually carry on a conversation at the bar. CROWD:  If you've been to the Vanguard you'll remember getting jostled about by e-tards trying to go to the smoking patio or headed to the bar to buy water.  King King strike me as a more mature Vanguard crowd.  If anyone was under the influence of anything illegal they didn't act like complete idiots and many had some semblance of self-respect.  Very diverse crowd with little or no superiority complex. STAFF:  No cocky door people.  The bouncers were imposing in size but actually ended up being very friendly.  Also you're given in-and-out privileges which makes things nice.  Bar tenders are decent people. DRINKS:  I couldn't figure out if the bartender was complimenting me on my drink choice or making fun of me.  I asked for an Old-Fashioned (I'll admit Mad Men turned me on to that drink), bartender said no.  I asked for a Manhattan and said bartender responded that I probably watch Mad Men, which I admitted.  I was put off a little by it but whatever. What keeps this place from getting 5 stars is that the drink prices and strength was inconsistent.  The first Manhattan I had was relatively weak but not terrible but it was only $7.  Another bartender made what I thought was a great Manhattan (balance of strength and taste) but charged me $9.  Yet another made a stronger Manhattan (she might as well have poured me a whiskey on the rocks with a cherry) but charged me $8.  The same drink and 3 different prices?  Don't get me wrong it's cheap either way (esp. considering the other places down the block) but you wonder at what point does a bartender just say "$12" as it seems they're just pulling prices out of the air. Overall it's a fun place to be and the drinks tend to run on the strong side (and they tend to be cheap if the bartender keeps pulling single digit prices out of the air).  As an added bonus, if you need to take a nicotine break, walk out to the corner on H-Wood Blvd. across from Kress (which is where this place is) and people watch.  Hollyweird indeed. I'd go again but I wouldn't necessarily make it a regular spot.

This review is based on Sundays ONLY (Rockband Night yeah- heah!) I love this little place for Rockband Debauchery.  I posted a Rateclub event here, and had a wonderful time with all that came out and would like to do it again!  Owen who does the Rockband is a sweetheart, and I adore Heather-At-The-Bar.  They have all of the songs from Rockband 1 and 2, plus full albums and others (I wish I had all of those songs!!) The only thing I would change is moving the set up in front of the big screen (don't they have wireless drums/mic now?)...it helps when you have been drinking and are trying to see those notes!! haha...and I would want to be able to mix and match and have impromptu groups (sometimes people leave, or you want to recruit (steal) a kickass drummer, or just mix it up and play with different people) also..if it HAS to be over in the disco ball room (dance floor area on the nights where they have a DJ - very cute) if they could close the door to the "smoking patio" my voice was scratchy after song 1 because of the smoke. My drinks were (and have always been) strong enough for me - Thanks Heather! The bathroom is clean, and I like all of the employees I have come in contact with. I would recommend this place, and I will most definitely be back for more Rockband! Hopefully for another event soon... ;-)

In terms of makeovers, this grand ol' place got the BOTOX of redesigns, restoring it to it's former bon ton elegance. Me likes the David Hockney, so any excuse to go poolside is a spankalicous treat. I don't care about zee Paris Hilton...I like zee Paris, but the Paris Hil-ton not so much. She can hang at her own damn hotels!!!  Strong, strong drinks baby..just the way Metro likes 'em. But most noteworthy is the classy resto done to the hotel. Still have to try the menu at the Dakota. Spoiler warning: It's land of the tramp-stamp here during party people time. 4 duckets of hotel luvin!
