by karolina w. on I really loved it here. I was in from out of town and came on a Friday during happy hour. The bartenders were really knowledgeable and they had a great mix of classic cocktails and their own creations. I had a Japanese Cowboy. So great. They really use their imagination with their own creations. I also had a Sazerac - good as well. My brother had a Manhattan, which I thought was excellent. We got there at 5pm and by the time we were leaving at 8 the place was jam-packed. Also excellent, happy hour drink and food specials. Need I say more? I think not, but I will anyway. We sat at the bar and chatted up the bartender, watched him mix drinks and ordered some small plates. What I really enjoyed about East Side is they seem to be really into using local Texas farms and such for their food. There's a list of where they get their items from and even list what items they get exactly. We had the meat and cheese plate, sweet potato gratin and the shrimp grits. All were fantastic. I love shrimp and grits and I thought the addition of curry was a swell idea. I was especially excited about the meat and cheese plate. Boar pate! Quail! Now that's something I usually don't get a chance to eat in NY, in a bar, ever. Nothing was especially gamey and it all was went so well together. If I lived in Austin I'd definitely be a regular, instead I'll just have to make sure I stop in there each time I'm visiting. They've put a lot of thought into this place and it shows.
by Alia B. on Great place for mid-week drinking. The bar is cozy, and the food is surprisingly good. Nicole is the main bartender during the week and is amazing. Live music most nights with an ecclectic mix of performers. Depending on how busy it is it may take a while to get your food, but you shouldn't come here if you are starving and expect prompt service. I took one star off because of the horrible bartender that is there on weekend. She's rude and unpleasant & almost ruins this place for me. Go here during the week...
