by Mallory D. on Came here for Restaurant Week last week. Would like to give it a 3.5 stars... my biggest gripes were with the waiting time. I know, I know, its a busy place, and especially for a Friday night... but we were left waiting an hour and a half (with a reservation!) due to a faulty buzzer that never went off. We had gone to the desk a few times to check on the time, and each time were told that we weren't up yet. Then, the host came over and exclaimed that he had been buzzing us for-EVER and why hadn't we come up to be seated! Well. So its 10:30 at this point and I am ready to gnaw my arm off... we had ordered potstickers at the bar to stave off our hunger, which were really friggin good. Me and my two girlfriends each opted for the prix fixe menu. I selected the salad for my app, which was really, REALLY good. The dressing was phenomenal. It had a funny name too but I can't remember right now. Next came the wasabi-crusted filet mignon... had really high hopes (how could you not with a name like that!) but it was a little cold, and I had ordered it medium-well. It was alright but nothing out of this world. The dessert was awesome though, I got chocolate spring rolls with this tangy fruity sauce. Really, really good. I've been to Tao before and the ambiance was great, we were seated right in front of the Buddha this time. Our waiter was very nice, and the guy floating around playing sax was a nice touch too :) Would def go back, but not on a Friday night!
by Dannie Ofsak on This past saturday, my friend had her birthday at bob bar on the Lower East Side. Naturally, I went on rateclubs first in order to get an idea of place. It looked great! In fact, I had never seen so many stars in my life--besides those gold ones on the bulletin board in grade school. I walked in, well at least tried to, but it was so crowded that I merely stood still until I was able to envision a path. Once I saw an opening, I made my way to the "table" designated for the birthday girl. I put table in quotations because it was quite small and there was hardly anywhere to sit. I had previously that the drinks are cheap, but I got a shot in order to avoid inevitable spilling ($7 for chilled blueberry stoli). I liked the music (a mixture of top 40 and old school 90's and 80's) but it was simply too jammed for me to enjoy myself. After experiencing a bit of clausterphobia, I left.
by Alison C. on The reason I am giving Element a 4* review is because I love the concept of this place. It's a full-on dance club, however the space is much smaller than most. I find it more intimate and less crowded. The main floor has a very large bar and a decent amount of dance space. There is also a second floor lounge that looks down on the main floor. The line to get in was not bad at all, and the bouncers were pretty friendly. The drinks were moderately priced, but the credit card minimum was $50! Other negatives were the music, which was an odd mix of hip hop and reggae, and the high cover charge (REDUCED was $20 for women and $25 for men after 11:30 pm). [This review is based on a Friday night.]
