The atmosphere is amazing! Everything else is only okay. One out of two drinks we ordered was good. The other tasted off and was not at all drinkable. The service was mediocre and mostly lacking. The food was overly salty. I would only go back to this place for the amazing atmosphere and if I had a coupon.

celebrated new years eve & friend's birthday here as a joint party. yup her bday lands on jan 1st! got really crowded, open bar for $80 with comp. champagne, but no shots tho which really put me down but still celebrated with mixed drinks & beer all night & got the best out of it! bathroom line got really long & hectic, dance floor was poppin', had a table reserved & our party of 10+ shared a 4 seater, but awesome countdown with awesome people which equals awesome times~ yay jake's dilemma!

I recently celebrated my 25th birthday here with about twenty friends, and it was a total success. Everybody was raving about this place. I think the concept of a bar on a docked boat in the Hudson River was really the kicker. It's a barge-type boat, so quite big. Now in its second life as a hang-out, Frying Pan has become somewhat of a dive bar. Some of us got there early to eat burgers and watch the sun set over Jersey. Actually quite a pretty view, regardless of the bad rep NJ gets. The burgers were decent to good. Don't expect to actually get medium if you order medium. Expect a surprise. Remind yourself that you're on a bar-boat, and it doesn't matter. Grab a bucket of Coronas. They end up being $6 each, which isn't really a deal, but I guess it saves time? Maybe get the white sangria instead. It's intriguing. Getting seating can be a problem in the evening. We lucked out and found a small table around 7:45pm, and then as people got up around us, we took over. I was happy to stay in my sitting area, because it appeared that the dance floor (complete with DJ) was kind of crowded. As were most pathways to move around the boat. Usually I'm a dancer, but I didn't feel right about being stuck in the bow with 100s of people. The boat does indeed rock. It made me feel drunk before I'd even drank. They say they close at midnight, but it ends up being a little later. Also, the basement is good for a laugh, or possibly a fright - I'm not sure. I found a box labeled "videos." What? Can't say that happens often in a NYC bar.
