Only 2 stars really? I didn't think it was that bad. I went on a Saturday and the club was packed. They had some good music, but with so many people it was hard to dance. The club has a lot of hidden rooms in which you can actually talk to people in. The club has two floors and early into the night the bottom floor was not packed at all and was much cooler and you could actually dance and move around. Around two o'clock they start playing techno upstairs so everyone heads downstairs, which is a lot smaller then the main dance floor so it gets packed in a hurry. The fact that the club stays open until almost 4am is a plus, most clubs in the city close at 2am. All in all the spot was cool, probably wouldn't be my first choice but I would hit the club up again.

Pretty okay place to wander to by your lonesome. By the end of the night, I was onstage dancing with a select few people who understood the vibe. Thank God, for the bump 'n grinders and handsy men were getting on my last nerve. I mean, who goes out to see Mark Farina and then decides it's perfectly okay to fondle a stranger? At any rate, the music was great. I just wish the crowd there understood the unspoken rules of the music scene. You see, when you carve out a small square for yourself and you're having a great time dancing to the music, there's no reason good enough to invade somebody else's space. I have mixed memories of this place. While the music was good and dancing on stage was a blast, the 2+ hours putting up with jerk offs was not worth it. I would go back - with friends, or with a guy with really fast fists.

From my very first show ever in California 11 years ago (Maceo Parker) I've been hooked on GAMH.  It's absolutely the perfect venue to hear music in San Francisco.  Unfortunately the more popular bands don't come here very often anymore.  Unlike the Fillmore you can actually find a place to sit down if you arrive early enough.  My favorite place to sit is up in the balcony along the counter overlooking the stage.  I've always loved the look and feel of the interior - makes me wonder what it was like to hear music there during the Jazz era when it was first booming.  It's pricey but the venue can be rented out for private parties, including full catering.  That said, this is the place I would love to stage my wake although maybe before I actually die so I can enjoy the party!
