Vault XXI is a beautiful spot along the Alameda corridor near the Arts District. With such a variety of spots for food and drinks within close range of this corner (e.g. Wurstkuche, Villains Tavern) you would expect that Vault might get lost in the mix. Nothing would be further from the truth. Vault XXI has a distinct personality and flair all its own. Its less than a month old but I've had the good fortune to visit Vault a few times already. I'm intrigued by their menu, allure and potential. Vault sits right on the corner of 3rd and Alameda in the former Yaohan Plaza. It would be a fitting thing if this lounge really took off and revitalized this shopping center as a cornerstone. Parking should be with street parking after hours as well as the parking garage right next door. If I remember correctly, this space used to be a bank... which would explain the lounge name and the little private room which I assume was the bank's vault. The interior is a beautiful setting. A gorgeous bar anchors the left side. A large dining area to the right. A lot of tables with formal settings and glassware. Some lounge chairs to the side as well as an island table. I would've imagined a few more booths and lounge seating considering its a 'lounge'.  The dining area just tells me this place focuses on food rather than just an all nighter of boozing with bottle service. I haven't had too much of their food (yet). Just a few items of their bar menu, which is slightly different than their main menu. Not only do the items read as stunning, they come out beautiful. Yes, I did spy some orders come out of the kitchen and I was very tempted to as the diner if I could snap a pic -- yes that good! The menu isn't cheap. If you're looking to just grub rather dine you might be better suited to grabbing some ramen down the street. The bar was my favorite. Just a beautiful area. So wide and big. A full bar to one side that sits in front of two big screen tvs. To the left houses their beer taps and refrigerator of one the best selections of bottled beers I have seen in a long time. I was in beer heaven when I marveled at their beer menu. One and two beers easily becomes a six pack :) If you enjoy beer, you must try some of their selections. A lot of favorites as well as some exclusive and elusive ones too. Sure, I'll admit... some elements do remind me of lounges in K-Town. :) Buts its a great space well suited for small or large groups looking for a slightly upscale evening. Even hanging out for a few beers isn't a problem. I sat and enjoyed a football game over a few beers without hassle or rush. Vault has a lot of potential to be a destination spot. It has a lot of good things going for it. The set up, the service, and food are all worthwhile. It would be a shame if this spot didn't blow up.

Came here on a Friday night after a visit to Bourbon & Branch. Live music was playing, and the band was awful. Lots of poor 70's covers and the singer was Idol style reject bad. No lie. The drinks are a little pricy, but made well. Dance floor was crowded, but the crowd seemed like it was a mix between stuffy businessmen and cheeseball older guys. I guess it is typical meat market hangout. I also ordered 2 pizzas to share with friends, the prosciutto pizza didn't taste that good... it is pretty damn hard to make prosciutto taste blah, so that is saying something. The margherita pizza was good though, so I would stick with that as a snack. Summed up: great views, bad music, kinda scummy folks, decent food and bev. Hence the 2 stars. QUICK NOTE: Just saw a review down below saying typical "east bay/ south bay" crowd. Are people really still that pretentious to this day to assume that all people from 40 miles away are different than the scum in their own area? Get with it ya closed minded douche. If you only want to hang out with people that you feel are cool with your "scene", stay home and call your friends over for a circle jerk to avoid people different than you.
