by Nneka I. on IF you are Black, Overweight or not considered LA Beautiful then you will be treated like dirt at Drai's the W hotel. Last night dealing with the W Hotel and the Drai's Club bouncers/hosts had to be once of the single worst nights I've ever had in LA. The plan was for 5 girlfriends to go out, dance and drink the night away. Here is what actually happened. As you approach the club "Mike Jones" asks you if you are on the guest list. Now you have no idea what he's talking about as he ushers you into a line. He states this is the line if you are on the guest list. Once in the line a bouncer "Sunny" Walks up and down the lines and chooses women that he thinks are attractive and yanks them out of line. What Sunny considers attractive are the following "white, asian, and skinny" You don't fall under those guidelines then plan on standing in a line all night. There is one other option of bribing him. I watched as person after person handed him hundreds of dollars to advance into the club. If you hand him a small dollar amount he will hand it back to you and says, "its not enough".Imagine that you have to bribe a guy who doesn't want you in his club in the first place to even get in the club and then still pay the hefty 20 cover! There are two other bouncers that walk up and down the line and instruct the girls that have been waiting to put their attractive friends near the barrier so that Sunny can see them. Talk about humiliating. When we finally got "choosen" so to speak they realized that the attractive girls in our group were also with girls that were not LA beautiful and they told us that we were fine but our friends weren't. Now WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND would leave their friends to go party in a club. I can't imagine that people actually put up with this. Why more people aren't angry and shocked at this behavior is beyond me. I can't warn girls enough not to even bother with this place. . After they insulted us we decided to leave and headed to a bar in Beverly Hills we walked right in Drank and danced and had a great time.
by Truman Cleek on I spent after hour nights (drunken hours) partying here back in the summer a few times but I wasn't aware of how awesome the space is until I did an event here. Plush booths, fireplaces, with a bar that fills the majority of the room - goodbye waiting forever for a drink. My boyfriend and I had one of the best nights at this club drinking and dancing with literally 5 different hot girls all at once for hours. Which is no surprise because the music is awesome. We heard everything we love ranging from Kid Cudi to Cut Copy. One of the better places in the city, it's no surprise that they are still going strong after all this time.
