Drinks: overpriced and weak Bouncers: complete power trip (even more than your average bouncer) Cleanliness: disgusting Skankiness: Jersey Shore-level Highlight of the night: I step outside to make a phone call, and bouncer refuses to let me back in ("no re-entry guy"). My friends and coat are all still inside...was even willing to pay the cover AGAIN just to get my coat because it was freezing out, and this guy wouldn't budge. Ended up waiting outside watching people throw up all over themselves and pick fights with each other. Beautiful.

Hmmm, where do I begin? This is my first, no wait, second experience with a  Michael Mina restaurant. Aqua in San Francisco was my first food experience with this chef and I absolutely loved it! So, what could possibly go wrong at a Michael Mina restaurant? Well, lots of things! I brought my husband here to celebrate his 40th birthday with close friends. We made a reservation for 9 pm. Some of us arrived at the restaurant at 9pm and our remaining party didnt arrive until 9:20pm. I understood that they couldn't seat us until all of us were there... but ummm, when we told them that our entire party has arrived they said that we will be seated as soon as a table opens up. One and a half hour passes by and we are growing very very hungry and angry having to stand. Poor friends who were wearing heels, their feet started to hurt. We approached the host inquiring our table and informed them that it's been nearly 2 hours that we've been waiting and we have a reservation. They said the same thing earlier which is waiting for a table to be opened. My friend, bless her and her attorney skills, asked for some appetizers as were a hungry bunch and expecting to be eating by now. They graciously gave us lobster corn dogs that took all of one chomp and then we were done. Finally, at about 11'pm 'ish we finally were seated. You would think the ugliness would subside, right? We thought, too! Nope. The waiter didn't even ask us if we wanted any drinks. We had to ask HIM to take our order for drinks. We all ordered the 8 course sampler which was about $68. I've had a plenty of chef tastings and this by far was the absolute worse tasting ever! They kept giving dish after dish at a fast pace. At time, we weren't even done eating our entree, when the next course came. Also, they didn't even tell us what each course was. They pretty much just dumped it on our table and had us just guess what everything was. My husband nearly cut his lip as his glass was chipped. My friend's husband found a hair in his cookie. Gross! They didn't even offer us coffee or tea when it came time for dessert. Oh wait, they did but they offered it during our 2nd dessert which was a root beer float. Who wants coffee with a root beer float? It would have been way better with our chocolate dessert. Not to mention, this place is really for the party goer's. If you are wanting to loudly celebrate someone's birthday like you were in Vegas and not care about the food, this is the place for you. But, if you are a foodie and want an enjoyable experience, please don't go here. It's a shame that Michael Mina's name is attached to this place. There were times during the meal that I forgot we were at a Michael Mina establishment.

Basically, this bar was good enough to get me out of my Rateclub-bernation. After a torturous and thankfully brief experience at Blues & Biscuits (I think?) across the street, my friend suggested we try Slide. I was surprised that I'd never heard of it, and when we got to the front door, I exclaimed "OH, so that's what's here! Always wondered."  It's RIGHT next to Ruby Skye, one of the biggest and most advertised straight clubs in San Francisco. Slide's entrance is an unassuming single door, dwarfed in comparison to Ruby Skye's larger than life exterior. Slide used to be a speakeasy during Prohibition, so the actual venue was underground. (Any bar/club that's subterranean automatically wins points in my book.) We got in without any wait, muss, fuss, or cover charge. Sweet. And upon entering, I stated the obvious: "Huh, so *that's* why it's called 'Slide'." There was a playground-like slide that transports patrons from the ground-level entrance to the foot of the dance floor one story below. Now, I'm used to loud music capable of busting your ear drums, but the decibel level inside Slide was a totally ridiculous. I actually bitched about it to my friend Jen a few times b/c it was so bad. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is my only complaint of the review and reason for knocking off one star. I don't know if we came on a good night, but I ended up having an absolute blast. It was packed (a Wednesday!), the DJ's were going off, and everyone on the dance floor was tearing the place up. Yes, actual straight men were dancing, and they were *good*. It's one thing to see dozens of people dancing up a storm and having a good time, but it's another to be impressed. My usual (Belvedere/7Up) was expensive, but it was practically a double. Fucking happy ass camper, I was. We regretfully left the venue around the stroke of midnight, and I vowed to return. As Rateclub as my witness, Slide WILL become my staple downtown straight bar of choice.

I was not happy at all with my meal. First the sushi my friend and I ordered turned my stomach upside down. Then, when I went to eat my meal, the meat of the steak and chicken was dry. At first I thought it was me, but then I let my friend try a small piece of the chicken which took her awhile to force down. When I went to complain to the hostess she only took of the coupon I already had with me. She kept saying the other two people said it was fine and that the chef had twenty years of experience. I'm sorry, but that is just aggrivating to pay for sixty dollars for my friend and myself only to eat only a third of it because it's too dry to enjoy. I will NEVER come back there.
