Whale sharks are cool, but the Beluga Whales are where the true money lies! Hands down the coolest aquarium I've been to. The viewing window at the end of the huge tank experience is like watching an IMAX movie and somewhere you could sit for days. The Penguins are fantastic and the whole place is very interactive. Well worth the money an overall a high point of our Atlanta trip.

In the middle of law school midterms, so fell my birthday. Depressed and severely sleep deprived, I announced to my boyfriend that I was cancelling my birthday this year because i had no time to go anywhere. Knowing how badly I had wanted to go to the overpriced XIV across the street to have beautiful cocktails and try their amazing looking vegan tasting menu, he dug deep into his underpaid medical resident pockets and made a reservation to surprise me when I returned from the library. Reservation was for 7:45, we got there a bit early and had a cocktail... 8:30 I asked a manager why we were waiting (there were open tables) he apologized and sent us a free tempura shrimp. 9:15, I went back up to the manager and explained that we had checked in, had a reservation, it was my birthday and I had an exam later that week so could we please be seated? (and then noted that I was a vegan). He apologized, gave me his card and brought us a free vegan appetizer. 10:00 pm we are seated... BY THE BATHROOM OUTSIDE OF THE MAIN RESTAURANT. So much for dressing up and strapping into my special Manolos- waiting over 2 hours doesn't even make you worth sitting in the main restaurant. The course menu: we waited a looong time between some courses and then all of a sudden had two or three bites thrown at us at once. Most of the food was cold AND they missed one of our courses. I told the waitress that we were missing a savory course so could she please bring it before dessert- she said "the chef is sure you had every course." What happened to the customer is always right? She waited until my boyfriend came back from the bathroom to confirm we had missed a course. Interrogation style, she barked to him, "you have chicken?" No he said ,and away she went with no apology. I am sad because I wanted to love this place. It is close to my apartment and has so many interesting looking vegan dishes (I had visions of wowing out of town guests and the parents), but the food is mediocre and the service is beyond terrible to the point of disrespectful. Perhaps XIV thinks it is the nicest restaurant I've ever been to and I should kiss its shishi feet? Well bizarre at SLS kicks its butt so wholly it is ridiculous, and the food cannot compare to the meals I've enjoyed at fine restaurants in NYC and elsewhere. Sorry XIV, this former NYC dwelling food snob thinks you're pretty terrible- and if we were in NYC your manager would write me back to apologize, but ACTUALLY your manager gave me his card and when I tried to call and give feedback my call was never returned.

So glad this isn't closer to me because I would go too often! Great music, great food.Nice staff. Bartender was marvelous. Medium-sized venue is perfect for music and people-watching. Interesting folk were there the night we visited....  Wide variety of music booked, just check their schedule as they might carry an act that's hanging on the edge of your taste in "blues"... I am from the South and don't tell Grandma- but their biscuits are amazing!
