by Lamar Commodore on I always have a great time on Polk Street and a part of the reason why is Mayes. Mayes has a great atmosphere, great music, and CHEAP drinks. The only critique I have of this place is that the dance floor could be a little bit bigger, but it's not much of a problem. For all those girls who worry about "creepers"-- there aren't any here. I'm a recent graduate, and I think people around my age would really like it here. Great place to go on Friday nights!
by Carol Voccia on I forgot how good this bar is. I haven't been for almost a year, but I found myself there twice over the past few weeks recently. "Society" always brings a great crowd (on Saturdays sometimes) and I just caught an amazing reggae/latin/salsa band that blew my mind over the weekend. Wish i knew their name, but the level of talent and musicianship was top notch. So what kind of place is Bordello? Some gal was drunk dancing and she dropped about $100 and credit cards all over the floor An alert staff member saw her drop it immidiately, despite the fact the bar is dark, and gave it all back. The place is a bit hard to find, but you can usually always find free parking here at a meter thanks to the slightly off the beaten path location. Nice find for those who like music. Check their schedule to make sure what's booked any particular night is what you are into. Bartenders wear next to nothing here in hopes of big tips. sadly, tha trick worls on 90% of all guys.
