I like a good friday night here, more my kind of music on friday but I have been here on saturday and still had a great time. Its not tough to make your way down stairs to the dance floor and bar. The coat check is upstairs at the entrance which is a great location. The bar staff is fast and keeps the fluids flowing. Some nights Hydration is key and the bar staff recognizes this and gets you your drinks fast so you can get back to dancing or sitting around looking posh if thats your thing. I have always found a great crowd hear, they might have a dress code but I never had a problem getting in. Easy to find if you know where union square and nike town are, just head to the alley behind nike town and get in the party!

"Buddha Bar. Cause when I think Buddha, I think food!" I was actually there for a b-day party in November so the menu was sorta 'prix-fixe' for us. Also, I can't vouch for the regular fare. The food: Nothing spectacular for the insane amount that the host paid for.  I mean the appetizers came cold and I coulda had a hot pocket that woulda gave me the same amount of satisfaction.  One of the trays for appetizers were some sort of flatbread with eggplant and mozz cheese on top. And yes, they reminded me of cold, soggy pizza-bagels. And of course the other tray was piled high with what? Yes, more food from the Costco frozen section: mini egg rolls. They were cold too. At least they gave us plenty of soy sauce. And I believe the other plate was some "Asian" Chicken Salad.  Seriously, I was beginning to think I was high on something and at TGI Friday's: Meatpacking District. main course: holy cannoli, here i go.  The food was... decent- but to be accurate and fair to decent restaurants out there, the food was just unimpressive for such a place. We were served communal trays of roasted ginseng chicken with mashed potatos (whatTheEff?), I believe some flank steak, Salmon, and of course the staple American Asian food: Lo Mein and Fried Rice.  Oh I forgot, before the main course, they served sushi and sashimi which was very lacking. WAIT, they served FRIED RICE?!?! My jaw dropped when I saw that giant bowl of rice and mixed veggies.  Call me critical, but I really don't want to see the same side dish that I get when I call up 'Great Golden Wall Hunan Wok' for some sweet/sour pork. Anyone else agree? Drinks: I had a Black Buddha at the bar which was pricey and also just plain unimpressive.  I expected a 'classy' chic drink but got a glass full of ice and other 'black'  stuff.  Oh yea, and an advice for you new anxious 21 yr-olds, please resist getting any sort of bombs(sake bombs, jaeger bombs, etc.) at such a restaurant, unlike some people at my table.  Leave the bombs for the dives and college parties and your childhood. Dessert: Appalling and I laughed at it. I believe they got a tray of Hors d'œuvre when they went to Costco for the eggrolls and Bagel-Bites! Atmosphere: Um... there's a giant buddha in there. I liked it.  the place, very cool and gaudy... like me. The music was too loud though for any productive dinner conversation( like everyone here has been sayin'). The music was mostly progressive house mixed with some very laid-back ambient tunes.  There was also very mixed crowd in there.  It was a Friday night, and I saw everything from scantly dressed cougars to a table of middle school children celebrating a b-day.  Throw in some guys from Bear Stearns and groups of cosmo wielding women and you got a rough picture of the crowd. As for the dress code, I went decked out in my Cavalli dinner jacket fearing I'd be refused entry anything short of a sport coat.  However, just like the crowd, I saw black dresses next to Abercrombie hoodies. But c'mon, you wanna dress up for a place like this. service It was what you'd expect, great.  However, things do get messy when you have a cluttered table with dishes in the middle of a giant table. Also, the guys out front were very helpful with parking (it wasnt valet) the bottom line: its an overpriced Meat District 'trendstaurant', what do u expect? However, the food should've been at least warm, more impressive, and I would have preferred individual servings rather than a messy system of family style dining.   I imagine it would be a better food experience when ordering of the regular menu.  the cocktail/bar area does seem like a spot I'd return to though with a group. -drew note: zealous Catholics may not appreciate the overbearing Buddha.

If you're looking for a non-descript tasty meal that is tex-mex (more tex, than mex), go here. If you're a group of fun loving blondes who just got out of class and want to go and make the scene and enjoy drinking yummy "mexican margs", go here. If you are rushing in your new sorority and want to fawn over each other, go here. Who is Trudy?
