I'm sorry, but I just  don't really dig the meatpacking district with all of its trendy bars and uber-expensive stores. Lines and red velvet ropes just aren't my scene. However, once in a blue moon, friends will drag me "downtown" to go out. I've decided that it's worth it, if only to see how high women will tolerate their heels to go when walking on cobblestone streets. And, more recently, how scantily clad people are willing to dress when the temps drop into the 40s (ummm, 'scuse me, but that dress could double as a shirt, and you look miserable). Ajna Bar, which used to be the Buddha Bar, is one of those ridiculous places. You have to know people to skip the line, otherwise it's just not worth the wait. It's your average loud, trendy venue with red lights and music so loud that your ears will ring for hours afterwards. But my martini was $14 and so strong it knocked me on my arse, the music was great for dancing, I met a bunch of interesting people, and if you have friends from out of town, it's quite the scene. Get your trendy dance on, NYC!!!!

I had a nice lunch at Slice today, with two huge pepperoni slices and a coke.  Pizza is very thin-crusted, so you can eat more of it than you expect.  Pizza is mid-quality, not "gourmet," if that's possible, but basic and tasty.  Sauce, cheese, crust and topping were all prepared well. Crust, and I'm a "crust" person, was way better than average.  Service was friendly.  Ambiance is "warehouse loft," though store is on street level, with huge windows that let you watch the foot traffic.  You may sit outside, too. I did notice a very mild sulfuric smell in the building near the entrance when I came in but sat 30 feet away and forgot about it.  Ceiling fans and air conditioning are plentiful.  It didn't interfere with my appetite and I attribute this to the age and location of the building .  It didn't affect my experience or this review, and I only mention it because older reviews mentioned and made me aware of it. I do intend to return and also try a salad.  Take a chance.  Branch out a bit.

You can certainly fill up on apps and small plates here.  An appetizer and two orders of tacos were far more than enough for a light dinner for two. The hummus and pita platter is way more than enough for two - about 15 small pita triangles with a generous helping of hummus.  I loved the fish tacos (special when I went) - light and fluffy grilled tilapia, with lettuce, red o onion and a little guac.  Two of these for $9 made a satisfying meal on top of the hummus. Atmosphere is definitely a cool, casual vibe... romantic yet laid-back.  I walked in wearing my workout attire, drenched from rain, and no one blinked an eye.  But I also wouldn't feel out of place here dressed up.  Looking forward to going back and trying out some other dishes!
