We ordered Kumamoto oysters which are little oysters.  Mayes gave us huge oysters.  We told Mayes that oysters were not Kumamoto oysters.  Mayes argued enthusiastically, until in the end when we didn't succumb to its nonsense, Mayes said, "ya, we ran out of Kumamoto oysters.  These arn't Kumamoto oysters."  Whaaaaaaaaaaat.

After going to Yoshi's Oakland once or twice (and having a totally positive experience), I was looking forward to checking out the SF location for a friend's birthday party.  Sadly, it was ridiculous from the first moment.  It took like ten minutes just to get through the security/door people - and that's not because there was a line.  It was just straight attitude - literally everyone in the line was treated like garbage, irrespective of race, dress, gender, whatever.  It was universal hate.  If I weren't going to someone's birthday party, there's no way I would have crossed the threshold. Once finally getting through security, I went up to the mezzanine to meet my friends and it was the most absurd scene I've ever experienced in San Francisco.  In the space of five minutes, I spotted at least ten boob jobs, some guy wearing a full white silk outfit (who are you, P Diddy?), a handful of women wearing what appeared to be underwear, several men with guyliner, and enough deeply tanned, greasy/douchy-looking guys wearing suits to last a lifetime.  It looked like a bad outtake of CSI Miami. The barstaff were straight hostile to anyone in the mezzanine who didn't reserve a table for bottle service and it literally took half an hour to order a drink - which, when it finally arrived, was delivered in a freaking plastic cup.  Stop the insanity. This is the cheesiest, sleaziest, most over-the-top corny bar I've ever visited and I will never go back.

CLUB BITES- PARIS DECATUR OK, New York has the Statue of Liberty, London has Big Ben, and Paris Decatur has hickory-smoked North Carolina Style Barbecue. Susan Bird recognized that the City of Decatur had a void in its culinary selections- no barbecue. North Carolina Barbecue dates back to 1500's when the Spanish introduce the pig. Quickly it flourished like no one place making North Carolina the cradle for barbecue. The unique style of slow cooking at low temperature over a prolonged time creates juicy flavorful meats. At Paris you can enjoy eastern style of Carolina barbecue with the dry rub spices and vinegar base used to season the meats. Each morning, the self-taught chef, Dawn McCullouch, gets the smoker going and fills it with Pork Shoulders, Beef Briskets, and Whole Chicken, and of course Ribs. The cooked to perfection, juicy Pulled Pork sandwich retained its smoky savory flavors. Try this with the house-made Tabasco-tomato based sauce, a side of potato salad that has a touch of mustard, and an ice-cold Red Stripe beer. The Pulled Chicken sandwich on a Kaiser roll with the sweet and sour Hawaiian sauce is a perfect blend of white and dark meats. The creamy, sexy yams with its cinnamon undertones, and a glass of the elegant 2007 Ecco Domani Pinot Grigio matched nicely with this juicy bird. The thinly sliced Beef Brisket served on Foccacia bread has rich hickory flavors coupled this with the Bourbon sauce and a side of Mac 'n' Cheese made with a blend of cheddar, mozzarella, and asiago cheeses was yummy!!! The 2007 Doña Paula Los Cardos Malbec's rich brambly black fruit aroma with its lingering flavors of currants, spice and herbs is a perfect wine for this down home barbecue. Oh yeah, the ribs, these fall-off the bone delights went perfect with the soy based Asian Sauce and a side of the heavenly smoked beef collards. The dark black fruit aromas and the black berry, spice and pepper flavors of the 2005 McWilliams Shiraz went well with these finger licking good babies. One other dish of mention is the Fish Fry Rice that consists of strips of Whiting fish blended with summer vegetables. This dish needs a Corona and lime and a sunset to complete the want-to-be-at-the beach experience. Paris brings the casual social event of eating barbecue for your pleasure Monday to Friday from 11AM to 5PM with extended hours on Friday serving until midnight. Carry out orders can be faxed in advance. Be ready to lick those fingers!!!
