First visited in 2006 and 2007, have been back recently. The barstaff is cold, but the drinks are great (and high shelf liquor is cheap)-- decent trade off, I'm there. The crowd: some students, some foreigners who don't really get American social gestures well (especially the guys going after girls), and mostly just locals and hipsters. Back a few years ago, this was the cutting edge for this town. It still is, but I think the talent they attract (DJs) have fallen a little bit due to increased competition from places in Allston where they can actually attract a young crowd. There's nothing wrong with a mix of people, but on the mixed-preference nights, I've noticed some guys that haven't really changed their get-up since about 2001. Yes, gentlemen, Boston gay clubs are no longer 18+ and they havent been since the Clinton admin...--if you want to find a college guy to stalk, I think online might be your only option at this point. Did I mention cargo-pants and bowl cuts are out? If it's a str8 crowd no worries. If its hipsters, its awesome. This is a place to pull a taxi-ride from door-to-door w/o a jacket even in the winter. Aside from underneath furniture, the coat check is generally overwhelmed by the accessories and puffy jackets- best to for dudes to throw on a thermal under that rock-band t-shirt and cross your arms.

Delicious salads with all kinds of yummy surprises hidden inside.  The bbq tacos are quite tangy and are really good when paired with the slightly sweet rice.  Drinks are hit or miss, but this is all beside the point. The reason you come to Cafe Circe is to hear the divine Ms. Francine Reed on Monday nights.  Ask her to sing Wild Women and prepared to tap your toes and leave with a smile on your face.
