Ooooh la la. I am biased in general as I kind of detest tapas.  I still hold to the fact that tapas is spanish for "waste of money".  Apparently, it's the same translation in Israeli.  In light of that, I won't hold it against Zahav. Yes, everything was very tasty and succulent.  From the lamb to the salad, everything was bursting with taste.  The only thing holding it back from being a 5-star?  Little things like charging extra for sufficient bread and charging $6 for so-so beer. I don't know.  Based on all of the restaurant-of-the-year reviews, expected something that would blow off my socks.  Like I said earlier, everything was tasty but not enough to warrant another visit for me

So this review will be half useful, half story-time.  You may stop reading where you see fit. The new Yoshi's is pretty spectacular.  The venue itself is pretty big.  They pile seats together so they can get the most people in there, but it doesn't really matter, because as soon as the show starts everyone is sitting down enjoying themselves anyway.  The restaurant attached (which we didn't eat at) is huge, and the bar upstairs, right outside the venue is close enough that you can hear what is going on inside.  The artists are interesting, and the only real complaint I had was the service inside.  Yes, I understand that it's a 2 drink minimum, but don't a) rush me into ordering because you claim its going to "get crowded" later, and b) charge me an arm and a leg for each drink once I get it.  Also, just don't be a bitch.  Aside from that, I believe id go back to Yoshi's.  If the right artist was to come my way. OK, let's get to the point.  Why did I go to Yoshi's?  My mom was in town, and at the suggestion of my sister (who lives in Oaktown), we decided to go see Dr. John.  He had a four night run there, 2 shows a night, so we opted for the Saturday night 10'oclock show. Story Time! (also a bit of cross blogging) Quick background on Dr. John. He is kind of my cousin.  He married my dads 1st cousin Loraine and had 3 kids with her, and now they are no longer together, he lives in NOLA with his other family, but my crazy cousins still exist and are still his ex-wife and kids.  My dad designed the Desitively Bonnaroo album, and while I have never met Dr. John before this night, I have always told this story. So Saturday we go to the show, meet up with our cousin Jennifer (his daughter) who tells us to find her right before the show ends cuz she will take us back stage.  He is quite the character.  He had an early morning the next day, so we didn't get to chat long, and I still don't know if he is quite aware as to who we are to him...but the grumblings of a crazy southerner made for an interesting evening. Now here is the best part.  After we had to find out on Mick's iPhone during the show to see if he is the guy who sings the "Blossom" theme song( which he is by the way)...we found out on trusty http://imbd.comthat he was the inspiration for Dr. Teeth!  Seriously?  The man is a fucking Muppet.  How amazing is that?  I'm sort of related to a Muppet.  It doesn't get much better than that.
