by John F. on After 13 years in Austin I just have to say good job to Trudy's. We've been going for years and the food is excellent. It's an ecelctic group of people that you'll find here, and it always delivers, consistently. I am generally a fan of the migas and fajitas combo, but the ensalada grande (fried chicken salad) and the burger (with the stone ground mustard and whole wheat bun) are also crowd pleasers. Keep an eye out for their specials. Typically anything with mole or a smoked sauce will be excellent.

Great craft beer selections, including victory, breckenridge, chimay, dogfish head and others, on tap or in bottles. I had some sweet potato fries that were delicious. Then, the music started. I happened to catch Rubblebucket Orchestra with Agent Moosehead and it was one of the best live shows I've ever seen, hands down, for only $10. It was amazing, fun, clean, and the service was impeccable. I will be back.

It's one of those scenes that you walk into and think to yourself... Damn, I should have pulled on my go-go boots, my bright red flapper outfit, slap a fake mole on my face to be phony, stuck a feather in my hat and called it macaroni. Or is that just me? Seriously, you can drown yourself in the elaborate and overly decorated walls, balconies, and ceiling frescoes. But, don't get caught up in all that. Go to get caught up in the sound. It's a fabulous and intimate music venue that happens to be settled in a restored historic building that has accommodated singers such as the Grateful Dead, Van Morrison, to Sarah Vaughan in the last 30 years. I attended a sold out concert with 3 other peeps and still got cool seats up in the balcony 15 minutes before the show started. Don't get me wrong, I did make it down to the floor to sway and boogie with the rest of the concert goers. What do you think of me? A balcony flower? Puhhhhleeeeeeezz... I was there Monday night to see Rachel Yamagata. Boy, was I surprised to realize that I paid only $20 to see this whole showcase of HOT women perform. I'm talkin' estrogen overload, but in a good way. I was sitting next to this handsome fellow who has succumbed to be my man and I'm thinking these women are HOT and scheming about different ways to get back stage. Awesome job, Emily Wells, Meiko, Lenka, Thao Nguyen, and my crush since I saw her at Café Du Nord in 2005 - Rachael Yamagata. Hot Damn! OVERALL: Very funky intimate music venue and still inexpensive (tickets range: $14-25). Great place to see indie rock stars. Add $24.95 to your ticket if you want reserved seating on the balcony while enjoying a lovely meal. Parking validation for the AMC garage between Van Ness and Polk.
