by Stanford Maenhout on My boyfriend and I checked this place out during midtown restaurant week, after passing it countless times and hearing really good things. We both ordered off the prefix menu and were very satisfied. I had the goat cheese balls and he had the meatballs. The meatballs were average and I loved the goat cheese, but they were so rich with all the honey, so I limited myself so as not to be too full for dinner. For entrees, I had orecchiette which was absolutely delicious. I've never had that type of pasta before and it was similar to tortellini, which I love, so I would definitely try it again. The vegetable sauce was really flavorful and really gave the dish some pop. My boyfriend had the steelhead, and it tasted alot like salmon too me, nothing too special, but he must have liked it due the his cleaned plate. We tried both desserts and the cherry with amaretto ice cream was the favorite. Overall, a lively atmosphere, but more on the casual end for Midtown, great wine list and better prices than I had expected, so we will definitely be back!
by Layla G. on It had been quite a while since I had been to Sutra - the club just seemed to gather a younger crowd, so it was not really at the top of my list. But one of my favorite bartenders tells me that he has started working there and I have to go and show my support! :) It was last Thursday night, we get to the door - they are very friendly - but I notice that they are patting down the guests as they enter. I'm shocked and one of the owners instantly senses my concern and explains that it has to do with some event going on across the street at Opera. So apparently, this is not their norm. That being the case, I don't think that they should discriminate. If you are going to do a pat down, don't leave the girls out of the feel-ski :D In we go! The music is very cool. Cool vibe, great crowd. And my favorite bartender is slinging drinks and making everyone smile. This is a don't miss on the club scene... then mosey on over to Lava/Cosmo right around the corner. Oh, and when you make the visit to Sutra - make sure you ask for Brunner! You won't regret it!
by Neville Baras on This is the second time i've been here. The first time was so unremarkable that I relegated the experience to a distant memory. This time, we went on a Saturday night when the dj's were spin'n deep house. I'm not a house head but this was a truly great time. The crowd was really well behaved and everyone was (or so it seemed) there to dance their own beautiful dance. A few times that night I even spied a few people "battling" and couples performing their own routines. Some silliness but all in all it was a good time. ... and the drinks weren't bad either. Just enough booze and juice for me. I'd definitely go again, primarily because of the unassuming exterior, back alley entrance, and unpretentious crowd... though if you're a bit on the prissy side you may be turned off from this otherwise low-key club. (The 4 Seasons it's not.)
