by Liya E. on Went last Saturday night, arrived around 11:30. Pulling into the $15 valet parking lot, I noticed the large crowd from afar. I knew it only meant one thing-- time to hustle. The crowd from close-up was even scarier--so much pushing, it was reminiscent of my communist childhood where the only way to get food was push through the crowds and render tickets. Here, the tickets are given out by the bouncer for free admission to the "worthy."-- a.k.a. pretty girls who leave the guy brigade at home. Such phrases as, "Don't they know who I am" were thrown around to careless ears and the bouncer was either enveloped in an aura of indiferrence or just had a really good poker face. After some wait time, we scored the golden tickets and the honorable walk onto the "other" side of the rope. The layout is beautiful, the decor is bright and tasteful. The outside patio is big and airy enough, I loved the wooden crates (or whatever they are) because they provided us with a place to sit. I cheated on my grey goose with a shot of patron that night, and it cost me 16 bucks! Good music and good energy, lots of space to move around (although through crowds). All that's missing is the actual Hamptons and a more chill vibe.
by Crystle Catala on I actually really like this place on Fridays. Other days are good too depending on what you like, but I've met really interesting characters on Fridays. Top 3 big reasons I'm giving Hwood 4 stars... #3 - cool decor, sort of a secret library on the first floor (replaced the books with dressed up socialites) dimly lit lounge and an industrial outdoorsy top floor with a crowded dance floor. Lots of space when both floors are open, generally decent and varied music during the week, and fun crowd. On some nights they even have an early open bar! #2 - docking one star because it's still about who you know and what you're wearing. I've recommended the spot to other people who haven't been able to get in - just hollywood BS. Generally go before 10:30 if you don't know someone and it shouldn't be too bad if your ratio is good. #1- $2 parking if you just park in the kodak theater, validate at the 3rd level kiosk, and walk over. $2 parking in Hollywood people!!
by Glynda Dugo on Kinda schmancy for a sports bar but I left impressed. The wait staff was nice and helpful... they were cool, not at all snooty. And there were no sharks in the floor. The food was good... a little on the pricey side but not bad. We had the "triple" which is 3 bowls - salsa, Queso, and guac for $11. The chips were very good... covered in some sort of grated cheeze (cojita, I think). And all three dips were very good... they didn't bring many chips but were happy to refill us twice. Then we split the nachos... $9. We were plenty full and pleasantly surprised by the whole experience. And our waiter, Alicia was helpful, cool, and fun. WiFi worked well... helpful for watching my fantasy team. Each of the two men's room urinals had a plasma placed above it... tuned to different games. For those of you unfamiliar with men's room etiquette, I recommend not checking out the game on the other dude's urinal. You might get your ass kicked or an unwanted date.
