by Laquanda Lagrange on the kress is very hollywood..........all looks but absolutely no substance. first off, the interior is amazing. the investors sure put in a lot of money to beautify the restaurant. it was simply stunning. the attention to detail was OCD-ish, in a good way, and i found myself "oohing" and "aahing" all night as my gaze bounced around from the walls to the ceiling to the flooring. we had ressies for 12, however, the number swelled slightly to 16 and they were quite accommodating. this was definitely one of the few good points throughout the evening. we were seated prompted and also greeted by our "head" waiter. he introduced himself and promptly disappeared while the b team took over. luckily for douchey head waiter, the b team was very pleasant and took their time explaining parts of the menu that we had questions about. we all started with cocktails and all the ladies raved about the kress martini. i think it was a lychee based martini.... onto the food: bento box: this consisted of scalloped potato's, pork ribs, octopus salad and a couple minced chicken skewers. the bento box was a dud with the only silver lining being the sweet pork ribs. the ribs were cooked well but served lukewarm. everything else was bleh with the scalloped potatoes being GROSS. first time i have ever used gross in a review me thinks. whoever thought up the scalloped potato dish should get fired because the thing was inedible. it was in a hot pot and soaked in grease. eww. the octopus was ok and the chicken skewers were ok as well. pass. my friend ordered up a couple sushi rolls that were utterly unimaginative. not to mention the fish was not glistening with fat like normal sushi should. bleh. the bday girl ordered up a few trays of sashimi and i snagged a piece of hamachi. it looked damn good but when i ate it, i could taste the fishiness. seriously? fishy hamachi? this has NEVER happened before....ever!! even low end conveyor belt sushi joints have better sushi....for reals! i dunno what to say. the kress is definitely not a place to eat. i would seriously eat at mcdonalds over the kress....and i despise mcdonalds. at least this way i know that i'm not wasting a lot of money on crappy food. i can live with a crap ass $0.99 burger but when it comes to an overpriced crappy dinner.......that is no bueno!! service was passable but it took a lot of flagging down of the runners to get the waiter(s). the only redeeming factor was free entry to the club. now there were some hotties running amok in the club. oh yeah! +1 star for the hotties in the club.
