As in most clubs with different varieties each night, your experience at this club will greatly depend on the correlation between your music taste and the type of music they are playing on the night you attend. Three pluses regardless of the night would be the strong drinks, the cool crowd and the couches.

So we've yet to find something like AMAZING in SF, in all our explorations and hopeful scouring, but this place is pretty much at the top of our list right now. If it were bigger and didn't surrender so much space to the outdoor smoking patio, had better ventilation/cooling in the dance area, and no need to go upstairs for ANYTHING, let alone a bathroom, it would nigh on be a 5, friends. Anyhoo - we were hunting, hunting I tell you, for fun on a Saturday night. Friends were local from out of town for the weekend, we hadn't been out since July 4, 2007, and our souls were hungering for good music and a good vibe to let loose to. We failed miserably with our first stop (boohissRouge), but flung ourselves into tentative, then all-get-out  sweaty victory at Vertigo! In our hunting, we went through like, 30+ Rateclub reviews, I shit you not. Slowly but surely we whittled places down. "Been there, they suck. Been there, too, they suck harder. Been there, dirty. Been there, bad music. Been there, lame crowd. Been there, meant for 18 year olds. Been there, someone got shot. Been there, someone got stabbed. Been there, music is lame. Been there ..." All this to say, we came up on Vertigo and these reviews. We laughed really really hard reading all the reviews. I may have even peed my pants a little. We thought, how can this be? Can they be LYING? Are they TEASING? Can we believe them? Can we TRUST them? But it sounds so good ... but it's just a bar. But they say they have a dance floor! But what about the music? Guuuuurrrrl. We got up in there and it was crowded. We was like, oh damn, is we gonna have any fun up in here? Iss a l'il tight. But there was ladies up on the benches rocking away and the DJ was like, DJing. He wasn't puffing up his chest and making sure you knew he was the boss and you were his bitch, no, he was making sure THE MUSIC WAS GOOD and worth dancing to! And i was like, oh shit! Lookit this! So we tried dancing on the dance floor for a bit but half the dance floor is a pathway to the outdoor patio which proves highly inconvenient to everyone trying to get somewhere and to those trying to get left alone long enough to finish dancing to a song but regardless ... The music was great. I mean, it wasn't revolutionary but it was simple: Mr. DJ took a CD out of his case and stuck it in the player thingie and when it was time he queued it and he did not get in the way of the party. Simple. Sweet. SALVATION! And the crowd was SO awesome. Everyone was apologizing and saying excuse me and showing good manners and trying not to knock people over and being careful not to step on toes ... it all brought tears to my eyes. Peeps were smiling and happy and polite and kind and cheerful and silly and ... full of love. Full of musical love. So rare people, it's SO RARE. DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU WANT TO FRONT. Take your blingity bling attitude and plunging necklines of plastic boobage and 75 layers of flatironed tri-colored hair elsewhere and leave us real, down to earth, kind-hearted, fun-loving, every day people of various persuasions and ethnicities to our cheerful happy place. We got up on the benches cuz we got tired of getting squeezed around and finished the rest of the night rocking out up on display, which we swear was not done to show off, but merely so we could breathe and have room to dance so we could get tribal without interference. THANK YOU VERTIGO. We will be back! :)
