by Shirley F. on The good: Huge - it was a busy Saturday night with lots of prom parties, but we were seated immediately. Dessert - we got the five mini deserts and they were amazing. We were told that they were prepared fresh in house and I could taste it. The tiramisu was heavenly and the chocolate cake was very moist and rich. Portions - With the Classic Pasta menu, you can take home another order of Classic Pasta after you eat. That's just nice. The bad: The service - the waiter didn't appear to know much about the pasta dishes (I asked him what was in Pomodoro sauce and he had no idea). He took forever to bring us our bread because he was so busy chatting with what apparently were his nearest and dearest friends sitting at a table across from us. That was annoying. And he didn't bring us new, clean silverware when he brought our dessert sampler, just one big spoon. Then he disappeared so we couldn't ask him and had to clean our old silverware on our napkins. What? "Pre-packaged food?" - I asked if I could get sausage instead of meatballs with my spaghetti and meat sauce (ordering off the Classic Pasta section of their menu), but was told the food was prepackaged as described on the menu and could not be changed. Suspicious... The bread - far too dry to be tasty and the oil/balsamic was missing something. We both had one small piece of the bread and quit. We usually gobble the bread up and ask for more! Microwave? - I suspect our pastas came out of a microwave - they had that sort of intense heat only a microwave could generate. Dirty dishes - Now I'm sure they're perfectly sanitary, but spotty glasses and silverware are just unacceptable. I don't notice that sort of thing, but my dinner partner most definitely did and he did not approve of any of the glasses at our table. The Mediocre: The calimari - it was just okay. I didn't really care for the sour white sauce that came with it. The Classic Pastas - I don't have anything bad to say about my Classic Pasta dish (spaghetti and meatballs), but neither do I have anything wonderful. It was fine, nothing overtly offensive about it. It was just a bit boring, was all. A little crushed red pepper really did help it. But, honestly, I think Carino's would be preferable. To sum it up: I do like going to chain restaurants sometimes (the foodies gasp in shock and horror), but this one just didn't really cut it for me. I prefer Spaghetti Warehouse or Carinos. I don't plan on coming here again, unless we can just come for dessert. That was some damn good cake.
by Shiloh Komm on Have been a few times. Never had a problem getting in, but will probably not go again (unless begged by a crowd of straight gals, as has been the case in the past). Drinks - decent. Decor - decent. Attitude - too big for it's britches. Prices - see 'Attitude'. Staff - see 'Attitude'. Just a big miss overall. This neighborhood doesn't need the faux-glam-exclusive B.S., move it to Meatpacking or something. Nice try.
