by Allison H. on I go to this place because I have to in order to see some of my favorite bands, not because I enjoy it. The sound is AWFUL. We are talking unbelievably bad. If the bands don't bring in their own sound guys and equipment, those with sensitive ears will be tortured all night. If it's too crowded the ceiling actually drips water (read:sweat). Ventilation anyone? Worst of all, the energy of the place is just ugly. I've been on nights when the regulars are there, and I couldn't get a dance. Granted I do not dance the style of salsa generally played there, but I can hang if you give me the chance. The dances I did get, the guys were snobby. Who wants to be in that sort of environment? I've resolved to only go to this place when my favorite bands are playing, because that's the only time I can deal with the bad vibe I get from the place.
by Keli Waag on I am all for the comfy neighborhood bar, and was curious about the local community during a recent trip south. While I am not the tallest person in the room, I found myself getting pushed a lot with little apology. In fact, one patron that ran into me actually gave ME a dirty look. Yikes. I guess Southern Hospitality didn't make it out that night. Then again, this is just one perspective from an out-of-towner who only had a few days in the ATL gayborhood.
