This place is good during the *Weekday* (like MOST Manhattan hotspots). If you come during the weekends it makes no sense expect to enjoy. I find that weekends in the city is hectic even when going to the gym, getting a haircut or going to your favorite brunch spot. During the week, my friends and I come here to escape the vapors of ennui that plague us.  Once inside we always have a good time. The drinks are pricey but for me it is worth it because they are well made and there is no cover charge. The crowd is vibrant and eclectic. Preppy Ivy Leaguer, hip hop star, rocker, model, school teacher, dancer, banker, lawyer, artist, trust fund kid, non-profit types all mixed together just to have fun.  The music is great. This is a good diversion during the week. It serves its purpose.  It is sexy. The Doorman is great. Wass Streven is a pro. He is a staple in the NYC nightlife. From  Pangaea, Veruka, Marquee and now Avenue). If you do not get in the first time, he is not being a dick for an ego trip. He is employed to keep certain minimum standards set by the owner of the night spot. He has to make a good party out of what he sees that night.   If you do not get in, big deal. If it is that important to you to experience that place then go back. Wass will let you in--eventually.

Who even knew City North existed until Blue Martini Lounge opened up??? At any rate, it's the best thing North Scottsdale / PHX has going these days. I'm thrilled not to have to trek to South Scottsdale or deal with another lame night at Barcelona again. I've been several times and always enjoyed the reasonably priced food and drinks...esp during happy hour (7 days a week from 4-7pm). My girl friends and I LOVE going because our first drink is always free with our VIP card. Perfect in this economy! It's an eclectic mix of people mostly late 20's and older, but it's a refreshing change of pace since the ages mesh well and all enjoy the loungy upscale vibe with hip south beach feel, cool outdoor patio, quality nightly band, and even a hot on the weekends late-night nightclub scene. The only bummer is that it's open seating unless you book a private party, so you have to get there early otherwise all of the tables inside & out are full most days by 5:30pm. It's not the place to go for a quiet sit down dinner. If you want an insane happy hour, pretty healthy tapas style menu, cool upbeat vibe, generally quality live entertainment and maybe some late night dancing (live dj every night) then definitely try this new hot spot.

This place was actually pretty interesting in a Eurotrash way and well laid-out and slightly less slimy-clientelled than I anticipated.  The appreciation stops there* The bouncer and his flip-floppy following of asenine club rules really boiled my blood.  Not being a club-goer, I'm not sure if I'm really frustrated at him or the way the system works; perhaps here I reveal some naivete** So a house party full of people tries its darndest to make it by the 11pm guest list cut-off.  We speed, cut people off, park in a questionable spot and run in heels to make it.  This was the most entertaining part of our visit, mind you. And when we get there, we see that the "guest list" is actually everyone in line.  Meanwhile, random people with nothing discernable in common walk up to the doorman, who turns from troll to friendly japanese game show host when he sees them, mumble something to him, and get the go-ahead.  So, OK, we've established that the guest list is really more like the lowlife's list, but hey, at least its free.  Time ticks and ticks as we stand in line longer and 11 oclock comes and leaves.  A group of 4 in front of us get checked off the list and suddenly the door closes and the velvet rope goes up.  It is announced in inappropriately dicatorial diction and tone that everyone on the guest list must now pay $20 to get in.  Oh, except for me and my friend (two in a group of about 10) oh, and my friend's fiance, and after some finagling the birthday girl.  NOW "everyone" ELSE has to pay $20. The party thinks this is bullshit and I sneak inside and scope it out while they mumble through the 10-step process of making group decisions.  It's pretty neat inside.  The bar is entirely circular.  There are pretty lights.  The beds look comfy.  The music's a'ight. ...  But guess what?....  It's at about 40% capacity.  Or maybe 20%.  In any case, it's dead.  So all that waiting around was total bullshit, and we could have absolutely been let in before the cut off time. The decision is made to go somewhere else to dance, we leave pissed off, and the not-so-happenin club loses hundreds of dollars in booze sales and a much needed bolster review. Supperclub is just one of many similar venues, I know.  And guess what: I do not wait in line for contrived popular scenes.  I do not stroke the egos of scenesters by caring to participate in their malarky.  I can dance in the street whenever she wants to to the 92.7 loop constantly playing in her brain; and moreover, I can take tequila shots just about anywhere. [end] *and I'm typically a pretty positive person. **AKA well-meaning positive attitude.
