Definitely one of the better clubs in the city. Granted, I went on a Tuesday so there were no lines, plenty of room to dance, and lots of free drinks. The venue is beautiful. The DJ played a good mix of euro trash music and hip hop.. and he was really hot. Really hot. Griffin DJ, if you're reading this, holler at your girl! I gave this place 4 stars because, towards the end of the night, two guys sandwiched me and one of them tried to put ice down my shirt. WTF? I suppose that's not really Griffin's fault but it was awkward. They apologized later so no biggie. Fun times!

Always a great place to go for drinks. The espresso martini is my favorite. The bottomless glass of wine is a good deal, but I just can't tear myself away from those martinis! I've been to One on several occasions, mostly for large parties. It's a great place to celebrate and the staff has always been accommodating (even if our whole party isn't QUITE there yet. :) The interior is very modern and fresh, dim but not dark...great atmosphere for a date as well. This trip to One was with one of my girlfriends for Midtown Restaurant Week. We went on a Wednesday night at 7pm and the place was pretty quiet. Is the recession creeping in? The wine wall did look a little bare, but things started picking up slowly around 8pm. On to the food - for appetizers I ordered the goat cheese sourdough bread. It was basically a huge wedge of bread with a tiny bit of goat cheese in the center and a few mushrooms scattered around the plate. I was VERY disappointed. :( My friend ordered the calamari (which I love, but I had already binged on earlier in the week). Can I tell you how jealous I was? The calamari was fantastic. It was served in a sweet and spicy sauce similar to the one used at Two Urban Licks. It was cut into seriously large pieces rather than the crumbs you usually see in restaurants. I was impressed.....and jealous. For entrees I ordered the fig and prosciutto pizza which had a balsamic glaze drizzled over the top. I had been craving figs all week, but it didn't quite hit the spot. It was just okay for me. She went the safe route and ordered the always delicious steak frites. It's her favorite - they can do no wrong in her eyes. Being the glutton that I am, I stole a few of her parmesan-herb fries. Okay, I can see why she enjoys it so. For dessert I ordered the kit kat bar. It's a staple on their menu, so I couldn't go wrong. It was so good that I can't even remember the other dessert we ordered (although I did try it - of course!). All in all the food on this particular night was just okay for me. That certainly isn't a testament to their overall menu though. I will be back... at least for the calamari and the kit kat bar, if nothing else.

I know I'm in the minority by giving Shampoo five stars, but I also haven't tried it out on a night other than tonight. I am always up for discovering new worlds in the city and tonight I found one at Shampoo. Carrie and I decided to hit up Nocturne for a different scene then we are used to. Since most of our outings are 80s themed, a whole room dedicated to 80s music was our idea of heaven. The people who were there were super cool [no judgements] and told us that the DJ isn't usually as great in that particular room. Tonight we all agreed that they were on point. Maybe I'm biased because it is Thanksgiving Eve - the crowd is generally larger + the events are usually different on nights like tonight, but I was extremely impressed. Shampoo is probably a typical club most days, but it has officially hosted the best night of my life.
