by Lorinda Sterk on OK so many mixed reviews..... First Opera Night Club is a overhauled 1920's Opera House turned into a nightclub, first 1150 which I have never been to. But read old reviews about it and there were some mixed reviews about it as well for those who have never been to 1150 as well. There are 4 areas to Opera. 1 main area with 2 side bars, 2nd the back room called the Venetian Room with 2 bars, 3rd the outside area with 2 bars, 4th upstairs the VIP area with 1 bar. I saw many complaints about lines, many clubs will have lines, even at Mansion Miami, FL. And then complaints about crowds, do u want to go to a place that is dead??? the place is about money $$$ why would they want it not to be crowded.?? I have been there many times and and still frequent on weekends and never had problems getting in. I made friends with a promoter and I always get in free as long as i get there before 1130 and on occasion the promoter will give me and my friend complimentary VIP arm bands. Being on the regular guest list can be BS at times so get there in time to get through the line before 1130 plain and simple. The the doormen and bouncers are there to do a job, and they have a boss to answer to as well. As we all have jobs and boss' to answer to. And if we don't do as were told we get in trouble. The bouncers/doormen are on the same boat. Some are rude but they are not part of Customer Service they are there for security. I have never seen a fight breakout b/c the bouncers take care of things quickly. Lastly... thing about dress code and stuff...now i do agree i have seen lots of dudes with way to tight of shirts on. but if your going to a nightclub would u rather see Abercrombie and Fitch or people dressed of a much higher caliber...
by Oriana J. on After 420 Lounge oh-so-wrongly dissed and dismissed us, we wandered a block down Amsterdamn to...this place. Over the course of three hours in no particular order, I; -Drank a pitcher of Cherry Wheat Sam Adams -Was invited to dance with this chick and...her mom to "Build me up, Buttercup" and "Since you've been gone" -Imbibed on several shots purchased by one metro-ish hedge fund banker -Had a drunken heart-to-heart with a BFF -Was offered blow in the bathroom (uh...no thanks, random skanks?!) -Made friends with a bachelorette party and the con artists who loved them. -Was banned by the bouncer for being "too hot" after flashing everyone outside the bar while smoking a drunken cig. -Made friends with a taxi full of Astorians (is that what they're called?) Bathrooms are cramped, tiny, and in the basement; stairs + alcohol = BAD MATH. Beer pong & buffalo wings in the back, the bar is always packed, the music is typical; think Top 40 hits combined with ironic drunken classics (Journey, Bon Jovi, etc.) Thanks, Jake's Dilemma...for making me feel like I was 19 again!
by Carole Kirvin on honestly, wasn't what it cracked up to be. the bathrooms are cool, the calamari salad is good, the sea bass is good, the pad thai is so-so.
