The first time I ended up here, it was the last stop of a night I (mostly) don't remember. This time, it was only the second stop of the night, and I do remember most of it. There weren't too many people, but good lord it was stuffy and disgustingly hot. No cute guys either, bummer. I loved the interior decorations and the stairs, but lots of stairs and lots of alcohol unfortunately do not mix. (Really, who thought that would be a good idea?!)

I wandered into the bar at the Culver Hotel to grab a snack and kill some time.  I was not expecting it to be awesome. I sat down on a plush lounge chair with two friends and we enjoyed some excellent live music performed by a smooth jazzy band dressed for a night in the 1930s.  As we watched, a group of patrons filtered in, and they were also dressed in old timey clothing, vests, snazzy hats, and all.  The Culver Hotel is historic, and it has an atmosphere of timeless fun to match.  I can't imagine the bar has changed drastically since the time of the Munchkins. I ordered a saffron-poached shrimp cocktail with wasabi cocktail sauce and cilantro aioli, and this was tasty.  The shrimp was sweet and snappy, served on little greens with great sauces.  I also had a Diet Coke which cost $3.50 and managed to taste like paint.  It's hard to mess up soda - I can't conceive of how you'd go about it. No matter.  Hotel bars are more about atmosphere than food or drink, and the Culver Hotel has that in spades.  I'm partial to the old movie aesthetic and from what I could tell, the live music is fantastic.  I'd never been to a bar quite like this one before, and now that I know it's there, I'll definitely visit again.

Can't live without my Jimmy John's! This location is a little hard to find, but once you know where it is, you wont forget. My fav is the #10 on white with hot peppers-- it adds just the right amount of spice that it needs to make it perfect. Always consistent and not too expensive.. what more could you want?
