by Wade Minney on Hmmm. I think it's a little overrated, especially for the lofty price. A more accurate rating would be 2.5 stars. The good stuff: Great atmosphere and friendly staff and excellent service. Standout in these areas. The bad stuff: Um, common bar rags were used as our napkins. I'm not a snob, so I didn't think too much of it at first, but after we left I had lint ALL OVER my dress. At first I illogically thought it was crumbs until I realized I couldn't get it off my dark dress. When I mentioned to my dinner date, he exclaimed that he had the same thing happen! I just paid $120 for dinner for two. Go to Walmart and pick up some dinner napkins for your guests. Seriously. The FOOD: It was great at some moments and not so great at other moments. Our apps were excellent. We had the tortellini and Belgian endive. Made us very excited for our entrees, which were less impressive. I had the hangar steak au jus, and while the meat was flavorful and tender, I would have preferred fries from nearly any fast food restaurant. Altogether, it would have been a standout meal for me if there had been a better side than overdone french fries. A nice clean vegetable would have been better. The fries were pretty gnarly. Unfortunately, my dinner companion was even less satisfied by his meal. He had the carmelized salmon, and afterwards he said his mother makes better salmon that she gets at Costco. Also, his portions were ridiculously small. I am not saying that the portions need to be ridiculously large, but a more satisfying portion, especially for the price, would have made this a better experience. Grand total was around $120 (that includes only two martinis). For $120, I would've liked a more satisfying meal. Oh yeah - my dinner date had to stop at McDonald's after dinner because he was still hungry. I probably won't go back to One Midtown Kitchen. I'm disappointed.
by Raymundo Lumpp on I prefer the other Hong Kong, but this place isn't bad. I'm reviewing the bar upstairs, not the restaurant. It's the kind of place where you can drink your face off and dance if you feel like it. There's a club on the third floor, and sometimes you'll see a long line trying to get up there. My only big problem here is the bartenders really suck. They tend to cater to their friends and boobs. I understand, but it's why they end up with a crappy tip. I don't ask for much, just a quick passing of the beer from the cooler to my hand. It takes a fraction of the time required to make some chick's fruity mixed drink. I only go here when a bunch of friends are headed there.
by Ed L. on Suede is a large 2-story club with many sections and bars. The configuration is a little strange given there's not really an overall theme so each room has its own style, good or bad. Table service here is pretty good, quick service and they give you free energy drinks unlike most places for the Red Bull Vodka addicts. Overall, it's not bad but I wouldn't make this my first choice when deciding where to go rage on the weekends.
