by Jared O. on I had one of the most memorable eating experiences of my life here just the other night. My friends had been trying to get me to come out, and eventually I acceded. I had no idea what I was walking in to. We entered the place around 8pm on Saturday and it was about half full. Party of five, we knew we wanted the Omakase (chef's choice). My friend had been before and was able to talk them into giving us the $65 omakase for $50 since we were all getting it and would share. They asked if there was anything we didn't like/wouldn't eat, and we all said no. Always a good choice. Course 1: Sashimi A huge sashimi bowl/platter, very beautiful. The fish was outstanding quality. Especially notable was the calamari -- which literally fell apart when picking up it was so smooth -- as well as the salmon and many others. Other highlights of this course included fresh wasabi, which I had never had before and was so, so good, as well as their homebrewed soy sauce which could be served as a drink it's that freaking good. Course 2: Variety of small-medium dishes There was enough for everyone in the group of five to have anywhere from 1 piece to 3-5 bites. Here were the dishes: - roast duck with homemade mayo - garlic & ginger chicken livers - some sort of jellyfish something - baby octopus - tempura chicken with homemade tartar sauce - another octopus dish - 3 others, two of which were my favorite of the bunch but I can't remember what they were All of these dishes with the exception of 1 were really outstanding. The one was just decent. Course 3: Rolls Shit, I don't even remember at this point but all of the rolls were incredible. I think we had 5 or 6, and they would have brought more if we were still hungry. Ultimately I think the eel was my favorite -- I happen to really enjoy eel, but also this was incredibly tender and the eel sauce was not overly sweet like many are, but rather deep and complex. Only disappointment in this crowd was the one which, quite surprisingly, came out with cream cheese in it. By that point we were all pretty much bursting anyway. Overall This whole ordeal took about 2.5 hours -- which in my mind is a good thing -- and out of the 20 or so dishes that we tried, only 2 of them were so-so. The rest ranged from very good to outstanding. Oh and also when we finished the chef took us on a tour of the karaoke place next door.
by Dusty B. on Hmmmm...maybe I'm not clubby enough. I felt like I had gone back in time to a New York club from the 80's. In fact, it reminded me a lot of the awful yuppie bar in the movie, "Cocktail" starring Mr. Tom Cruise. Also, an East Indian gentleman asked my buddy and I if we would like to hook up with his girlfriend. Translation: Can I pimp you this prostitute? Now, this, in itself, is not really a big deal being the oldest business in human history. However, he was very smarmy, aggressive and just plain sketchy. So, the bed idea is cool. I've seen it a couple of other times. But, the music was very uninspired. Friday night no less! Were I to be asked again to go this spot, I would probably decline unless I had a great recommendation for that night's DJ.
