by Monica J. on If you haven't been to Trudy's and ordered a mexican martini and a stuffed avocado... you have not experienced Austin college life. There really are no words to describe it except deliciously sinful. Great atmosphere, very much a college student hang out, and I have never had bad service. This says a lot, considering how busy they usually are. The waitstaff do a great job, even if they might take a bit longer at times. Everytime alumni come into town, you can bet this is on the top of their list of places to re-visit. It's almost as obligatory as walking around campus and reminiscing about the college days. Definitely a place you do not want to miss! To clarify: the four stars are for the mex marts and the stuffed avocado. I have tried a few other things on the menu and while they're alright, it's nothing amazing.
by Timber W. on Maybe it was the music. I went with my sister and her boyfriend to Star Bar to see Royal Thunder and How I Became the Bomb (cool name, I know). Royal Thunder, with their stuffed ram and goth-looking candles on stage, actually got my stiff hips swaying. (I don't have arthritis; I just can't dance.) Perhaps the cheap Cabernet Sauvignon also had something to do with it. Even though there were various devices broken in the bathroom, I am willing to overlook the dilapidation. THAT'S how much fun I had. The bartenders were friendly, the music was great, and the company was even better.
