Red House Pizza may arguably have the best HH in Austin. 1/2 off pizzas and $2.00 Lone Star pints create good times. I suggest dining in the bar area or on the patio, the restaurant side isn't very exciting. All of their pizzas are very good, but the Housemade Sausage to me is their best along with the White Pizza. Remember this is a thin crust pizza so order more than you normally would. The only downfall about this place is their service. They always seem to be understaffed during HH and I find it hard trying to track someone down. I also get a sense of hipster elitism amongst the servers. They are friendly enough, but I believe I would get better service if I had tighter jeans or a mustache.

Some friends and I ate at Tangerine tonight - we loved it!  Everyone was friendly, from the hostesses to our waiter, Ignacio (his accent was sooo sexy).  To me, customer service is key, and some of these restaurants in Olde City and Center City can be pretty snooty (for no real reason, if you ask me).  They started us off with bread, which is just ok, but the oil with ground pieces of olive that they give you to dip it in is so good! First, we ordered the Chopped Mediterranean Salad which was absolutely delicious - it had feta cheese, artichoke and these perfect little shrimp.  For my entree I ordered the Seared Duck Di Veneto, which was also very tasty. It was my first time having duck, but I thoroughly enjoyed it, I'll have to add it to my repertoire. I didn't care for the grilled radicchio , but I just pushed that to the side. For dessert (yeah, we THREW DOWN) we split the 7 Layer Chocolate Cake, which came with a scoop of banana ice cream.  The food was pricey, but very tasty, and I didn't mind spending more for good food and service.  OH, the decor was fab too!  They have this wall, that is full of holes, and in the holes are small candles - it's just so pretty!

Great decor in this place, but the nightlife is nothing to be too jazzed about. However, the Saturday/Sunday brunch special is unbeatable. It's nice and dark and usually not too crowded if you get there before 1200. Trixies and Chads abound in the AM, but if you go armed with a group of friends who are equally hungover and who also look like hell, it turns out to be alright.

I have now been here quite a few times. There is always a good crowd (actually sometimes there can be too much of a crowd). They have pretty good drink specials throughout the week. The night we went (I think a Wednesday) they had $3 martinis. I know the waitress also told me they have $5 martinis on Friday, you don't see that very often. Their food is pretty good. I had their chicken and pear panini. Even better, they have sweet potato fries. : )

Food

The Grand Central’s menu is probably too upscale to attach the title “pub grub” to. It’s a yuppie’s dream mix of martinis and paninis, rounded out with a decent mix of appetizers, salads and sandwiches. Start out with the strawberry baby spinach salad or the ahi sushi salad, then move on to some zucchini corn quesadillas, Grand Central ribs or roasted red pepper and pesto hummus. The sandwich menu includes a variety of paninis, from prime rib to chicken/pear, a pecan chicken wrap, a shrimp dish, and the requisite burgers. A small selection of entrees (surf ‘n’ turf pasta and Mediterranean chicken are solid choices) rounds out the menu.
