I went to Lavo recently on a Sunday night after hearing very positive reviews from my sister. I must say I was actually disapointed in Lavo. I arrived there around 8:00 on a Sunday night. The space is beautiful. Problem is there was hardly anyone in the restaurant. It was practically empty. I will say by 9:00 or so, it started to get more crowded but was very surprised by the lack of a crowd at 8:00. The space is really nice, the staff is very attentive, but the food was very average. Between 2 people, we split the caesar salad, the spaghetti with kobe meatballs and the chicken parm. The spaghetti with meatballs was $34. I make better meatballs at home honestly. There was barely any sauce on the spaghetti and seemed undercooked. The meatballs were so average. The chicken parm was ok, but really nothing great and nothing better than a chicken parm I can get at the local deli. The salad was ok. Probably the best part was the garlic bread that they serve you warm when you arrive. With a bottle of wine, the meal was about $150 and it was nothing spectacular at all. I will not be back and would not recommend. I would go there to hang at the bar and have a drink, but would skip the food.

this is a cool place that feels very french-eclectic. we walked in and there was gypsy-sounding music playing by a band with an accordian, clarinet, and bass. the decor is fabulous and really makes you feel like you've entered a time-warp. we sat in the back patio, which is also beautifully decorated with fun red patio tables/chairs and colorful lamps hanging from the ceiling. the drinks are small and expensive but pretty strong. i've had the burger with goat cheese and it was really good, but i haven't tried much else. the big ding i'll give this place is the host. when we walked in, i didn't realize we had to be seated since i had my eyes glued to the fun band, so i was walking, and nearly ran in to him, and he was pushing me back towards the door, asking if i'd ever been there before (implying we had to wait to be seated). this was totally un-called for, and i felt disrespected for no good reason. besides one jerk who hopefully isn't there often, the place overall is gorgeous and a great ambiance for a chill night. i'd still recommend this to others looking to stay away from the downtown crowd but caution them of the service and price!

Truly a great music venue, but the age of the crowd is a bit unsettling.... Average age at the last show I saw there couldn't have been more than 16. The girls in front of me weren't even old enough to catch the band's homage to Bon Jovi. Scary.
