Who ya callin' Fat? Not Fat Taco. No, these are more like mid-size tacos you would find on the nearby taco trucks. But these are sold in the dark cavernous room of Club NV on Folsom during the lunch hour, a cost-efficient set-up similar to the Nick's Crispy Tacos/Rouge Nightclub arrangement on Polk. It's solid street taqueria eats offering the standard fare - tacos, burritos, quesadillas, fajitas, alambres - on their robust one-page menu. I came with a colleague who was gratefully quite familiar with how to order, so I followed her lead and went for a $3 Classic Spicy Pork Taco and made it "Fat" for just four extra bits by having guacamole, sour cream, beans and cheese added on top. As a second course, I ordered the $4 Classic Grilled Shrimp Taco with shredded cabbage and spicy honey chipotle sauce. The combination of the two tacos (see photo) was quite filling enough, but I couldn't help myself and ordered a $3.50 side of the Yucca Fries, a nice savory complement. Price wise, they are not quite the bargain provided by the Los Compadres Taco Truck on Tehama, but the additional ingredients on the fat version go a ways to compensate. For instance, I don't think the spicy kick of the shrimp is available on the truck. I have to admit that the thought of eating our tacos in a dark nightclub really didn't excite me, so we ended up going to the open terrace of my office building. On a sunny San Francisco day, Fat Taco can almost make me forget I have a 1PM meet...oh sh**! FOOD - 4 stars...fat or skinny, these tacos provide good street eats for a working drone like me AMBIANCE - 2.5 stars...maybe they could use their disco glitter ball to lighten up the club SERVICE - 3.5 stars...nice and helpful TOTAL - 4 stars...who ya callin' Fat?...oh, me, I guess :-(

Mamajuana Cafe is a hip and stylish bar / restaurant full of scantily clad patrons and their no-neck .aka. extremely steroidish lovers. Which isn't really a negative or a positive, just is what it is. Despite this observation, the decor and ambiance is great and hip. Now let's get to the real stuff: the food. It seems like a blend of Spanish and Mexican. The food was very tasty! I ordered the cocas and a shrimp ceviche. I wasn't too much of a fan of the ceviche, as it had too much cilantro in it, but the cocas was delicious! The ropas vieja was also excellent. Not a place I'd actively go out of my way to eat at, but if I am in the neighborhood again it's definitely a spot I'd revisit.

Threw a bachelorette party here on a Friday night and it was lots of fun. Good VIP service and attentive servers. They basically was our photographers for the night....they were sweet. Its a very professional crowd. Mixed crowd and good music & vibe. MMm... the bottle service is a bit pricey than other places. Its just cuz its the new hot spot right now in LA. But it was good times.
