I've been meaning to check this place out for quite some time, and last night I finally had the opportunity to. I heard that it's pretty hard to get into late in the evening, so since we were all done w/ dinner at about 10 & all dressed up, we figured that it was the most opportune time to head over. The bouncer who managed the line was well-dressed- I'm talkin' nice tie & dress shirt w/ a stylish hat, which set the scene right off the bat for a sleek & classy lounge that was awaiting us. We paid $20 to get in, which I found to be very overpriced for SF, but later realized that it was a good method for weeding out the ghetto crowd. Once we entered the lounge, I was instantly impressed with the well-thought out layout, impressive DJ set-up, and sexy decor. If I were to reserve a VIP table, this would be the place I'd go. The arrangement of the VIP seating area is inviting with its open spaces and plush seating to romp around on. The only thing that stinks about this, is that for the non-VIP crowd, there's nowhere to sit since all the seating areas are reserved for VIPs only. Kind of lame when you just want to rest your feet for a bit. While taking in the scene, I noticed that there were a ton of good looking ppl there. The crowd was well-dressed, classy, & diverse. I took a mental note to bring my newly-single gf there. Oo, and also one thing to note is that there weren't any hired photographers prowling the scene to snap your picture. I don't mind these guys too much, but w/ them being out of the picture, it seemed to leave out the cheese factor that it can often bring to a club. The bar is super sleek w/ hot bartenders that are attentive and easy to get to. The drinks themselves were a little strong, but were satisfying as I ordered an Asian Pear Martini and Vesellini. I was a little bummed that they didn't have mojitos, seeing as how they'd advertised that they serve them. The music started off a little funky w/ a little bit of 80's & dance music, but once the place got a bit busier the music switched to hip hop and oh-my-goodness I was in heaven. I am a hip hop FIEND so finding a hip spot that plays my favorite type of music was like a match made in heaven. They mixed in some non-mainstream hip hop along with a few current hits, which is just the right kinda formula to get me dancing. It's a shame that they only play hip hop Fridays & Sundays, but oh well.. it's better than no hip hop at all! And let me also say that the bathrooms are awesome. Complimentary Altoids, lotion, & hairspray? Thank you! Perfect for a post-dinner fresher-upper. I'll most definitely be back. p.s. Their logo along with its transparent flower, gets 5 stars in my book!

I must say, I've become quite smitten with Johnny Brenda's.  I think the only place where I'm more likely to be found is in my own house.  And, ok, maybe my boyfriend's apartment.  Maybe. I've mostly used Johnny Brenda's as a place to have a few beers while checking out a show.  The upstairs opened last fall and since then I've seen a good number of shows.  I haven't been disappointed by any of them.  The space is what I consider to be a perfect size for a show.  There isn't a place in front of the stage where you'd have a bad view, and it's a wonderfully intimate setting. The beer selection is pretty fabulous (as you would expect from the people who also own Standard Tap), and it's also reasonably priced.  Both things I greatly appreciate. The bar kind of has multiple personalities.  Downstairs has all the hallmarks of a local dive bar: the floors are linoleum, the tabletops are always sticky, and there are even a few neon lights.  I love it. Then you go upstairs where the floors are all hardwood, the bar is well designed with accent lights everywhere, and there's even a partial third floor balcony overlooking the stage.  I love upstairs even more. I also have to give my vote for Best Women's Bathroom to the 2nd floor of Johnny Brenda's.  There are more stalls than you could ever need, there are multiple mirrors (including a full length).  Also, the lighting, sinks, and fixtures are gorgeous. Now I just need to get in on some of that brunch.  Man, do I love brunch.
