I would give the atmosphere 5 starts but can't say the same about the food and the service. We had a reservation and still had to wait at least 45 minutes for a table. The food was nothing to write home about. I ordered a steak which was tough and barely edible. Nobody else I was with seemed that impressed with their meals either. We were so underwhelmed after dinner we didn't even stay for the party. It looked okay, I would probably go back for the party but never for the food. The decor was amazing which makes me wish they had better food so I would come back.

This review is based on my experience with the downstairs area; I haven't visited the restaurant yet. I intend to go back, as I think they are really just getting their bearings, but based on my one experience, I give Parish 3 stars--the rateclubs equivalent of a C, right?  In this case, "C" would stand for the following: 1) Confusing, as in the weird half-table service downstairs.  My friend and I ordered full breakfast to stay, but everything was brought to us in to-go containers, and without utensils.  We were told that utensils were "in there" and had to go searching for them.  Behold, they were back up where we'd originally ordered.  Huh?  If you're bothering to bring me my meal, why not just bring them out?  We watched another table go through the same thing, waiting for their meal at a table outside, being delivered boxes, quizzically examining their packaged granola and yogurt with the price tags still on them, and then trying to figure out where to get spoons.  Huh?  The to-go containers made us feel like we were eating, well, take-out.  (Hint: Eggs eaten off of cardboard is kind of gross.) I know the downstairs is a "market," but why are they serving breakfast there then?  Even my neighborhood coffee shop gives you your egg sandwich on a plate.  Plus, aren't we all trying to be a little more environmentally on the ball these days? 2) Cold, as in my grits.  Freezing.  Also, somewhat Clumpy.  I let it go because, as they say, TPJOAICWOTK (The Place Just Opened And Is Clearly Working Out The Kinks). 3) Cappuccino, as in why wasn't it better?  I had to explain to the barista what a wet cappuccino even is, which didn't bode well.  Sure enough, my to-stay cappuccino came out in a to-go cup with no lid.  The froth was airy rather than foamy.  Like suds.  And it wasn't blended well with the espresso, which was also ok--not burnt, but not smooth either.  Again, TPJOAICWOTK. 4) Concentrate on what matters, as in, I wish they had.  It appears as though they have spent a LOT of time working on the design.  I do like the halogen lighting/fancy knick-knacks/cool exposed brick thing, but I wish they'd spent more time getting the food and service right.  There were at least 10 people working downstairs when we came in, and no one smiled at us.  Even when we were walking around looking for utensils, salt and pepper, etc., no one so much as glanced our way. 5) Cautious is how I tend to be with places like this--places with chalkboard menus, halogen lamps, etc.--first off because I'm from New York, where everything just authentically looks like that and is less likely to impress anyone--but mostly because so often the food is overlooked in favor of the trappings (see #4, above).  Sometimes these kinds of multi-function places have such a grand vision (as i think Parish does) that it takes a while for all the elements to settle into a big picture...not unlike some great meals.  I have a feeling, or at least a hope, that this will happen here in time. Lastly 6) Cost...isn't bad!  My breakfast was only, like, 6 bucks. Maybe next time it'll get an A, and I'll have to think of lots of new Adjectives for my review.

I judge a place by it's DJ. If the music does not get me hyphy, then what is the point for the club to exist. I wanted to like the Highlands, I really did and I'll admit it, I had a grand old time there but it was for the wrong reason. I went there with a group of about 11 or so friends - two of whom were celebrating a birthday - so we danced drank, drank, danced a lil drank, drank, you know the rest. As for the DJ, can you say trainwreck?! After trainwreck, after trainwreck. Don't get me wrong, I am not a electronic dance music snob (but I am) I do like top 40 hip hop any day of the week (go half asian half hispanic girl, go half asian half hispanic girl!) but the music was not groovin me as much as it should. Highlight of the night though there was a really cute hip hop up and coming Fergie wannabe rapper chick with black eyed peas posse that I loved. She was awesome! If you are into just "da club" scene you should check it out. But if you really like dance clubbin', pass.
