by Autumn K. on Ummm...I suck. No. Really. I do. I may be the only person who can sleep through a jazz show in the seat front and center of the stage. Seriously. Ok- I have a stressful job and it was after work but still. Yeah. I'm sure the delicious, extremely strong drinks (Dear Ruby, you rocked my world) didn't help at all. I may have had several... Dinner is delicious. The standards we had were great- california rolls, some kind of deep fried halibut roll or some such thing, the seaweed salad with cucumber and blood oranges. Mmmm...and did I mention the Dear Ruby? The actual venue itself is a little odd...the way they seat you is strange. The tables are a little crowded and you and your companions will be seated not next to each other, but in front and back of each other. Fine if you're not looking to canoodle, I suppose. The acoustics are good, the lighting is just right, and it's a good time all-around. I don't know about the price of tickets (lucky me!) but I can tell you the sushi and menu in general are fairly reasonable and the drinks are worth every last penny. Good wine list and really great restaurant space. Service was gracious and extremely accommodating and food came fast. Which is good. Because when I decide to eat, I want it fast and delicious. Just like me. I recommend and next time I'll try to stay awake. Oh, and I'll try not to break any champagne glasses next time. Just don't make mad. Or make me wait for my food. I think this relationship has potential.
by Lita Agoro on Located in the crappiest part of the city this place is the definition of wannabe-trendy hiphop clubs. Full of slutty girls and guys looking for slutty girls, if you don't fit into either of those two categories you will find yourself leaving hating this place too. Parking is only an option if you don't care about being broken into and the DJ needs to calm down with the mixing and play more than 20 seconds of a song.
by Joe G. on Cool tiny, tiny little club off of misson on 19th. Its right around the corner from the associated restaurant- bissap boabab so dont get confused with it. Its real islandy feel, great hibiscus and ginger drinks! 5$ too and they got some fruity cocktails. The bathroom is decent too, they spin a real mix usually of calypso, african, reggae, hip hop, latin world music. Real diverse. It was kinda funny though, the dj put on apache by the incredible bongo band(classic hip hop break) and I was about to bust into my bboy moves(omar) the other dj wispered in his ear and he abruptly cut into a different track. aww another night for my showcase. but it was free before 11 and I think its only 5$ after that. Cool place, diverse crowd, whiteys africans, latinos. some asians. it was cool.
