We tried Ecco for their Garlic Nation awhile back. The place I am definitly impressed with, the decor and feel of it was inviting and we enjoyed lingering over our meal. The Garlic Nation menu however....was not that impressed. We went with a bunch of people, and so we ordered all sorts of things off the garlic menu, and a few things off the regular. The Garlic menu was such a disappointment. The serving sizes were much smaller than we thought they would be, and a few people were left wanting more. Those of us who ordered a side dish were satisfied however. The dishes on the special menu had no garlic! They said they did, but the strong garlic overload I really was wanting was non-existent. I would have been hard pressed to even tell you there was garlic in some of the dishes. Anyways, past that disappointment, everything else was superb. The drinks we ordered were tasty, and if you like lemony drinks, I definitely recommend their signature drink Lemon Provincial. I love love loved that drink. Justin ordered the Quail off the main menu and it was drool worthy. So tender and flavorful. It was extremely well done. I however, have never had quail before this so take it as a newbie pronouncement. I got the side dish of brussel sprouts and really recommend that also. They were very well handled. We got a meat and cheese dish off the main menu also, and let me tell you, try their aged Gouda. To die for. The blue cheese was really strong though. And make sure to save room for the desserts. The olive oil ice cream is actually really good. Wait staff as kind and we never wanted for water etc. We will be going back for sure.

I used to go here circa 1999 (damn i feel old now :(  ) Still one of the best places in the city to hear decent music and actually dance a bit too. (actually a lot i left that place with many a blister, cramp, numbers in hand and stumbling up the long corridor to get outta that dungeon of a place) gotta love anyplace that has a big bar, heavy handed bartenders, and booming sounds.  one of the places I miss the most since i left ATL, but still a legend... i hope you n00bs don't ruin the place...

First of all, you know it's a bad sign when you're on the dance floor dancing and thinking "I'm so getting on rateclubs first thing tomorrow morning!" But wait...I'm getting ahead of myself- Let me start at the beginning, the night starts out with a fun limo ride from the LBC to the Highlands for a bachelorette party. We saw the Hollywood Men's show which was pretty hot- but not the greatest because we were so far from the stage.  When the show was over everyone was taken out to the patio for about 20 minutes to wait while the staff cleared the tables and chairs off of the dance floor. Although it was nice to get some fresh air, it was kinda shitty because there was no where to sit, no music, and you couldn't get close enough to the edge of the balcony to really enjoy the view of LA. This really killed my buzz!! So finally the doors are opened and we go back inside ready to dance, but oh wait.. the music is awful. I've been to clubs in Europe and Mexico and I know the rest of the world likes to dance to techno- especially that damn whistling Children of the World Song, but not here Mr. DJ! Seriously? Did you play that for the tourists? Because half of the dance floor was just STANDING there not dancing. After about 15 minutes of attempting to dance to the crap he was playing (like weird mixes of cock-rock and disco?) my friends started giving him the finger. Okay, I thought, this is just the Long Beach in us girls, but within minutes EVERYONE around us was doing the same thing! It was sooooo funny!!!! He finally got the hint and played the Smith's Hang the DJ, but not first before coming over the side of the railing of the DJ booth to give us the finger! At this point, we were within minutes of leaving when one of the bouncers told us to wait for the real DJ to come on- so we did.... and it got a little better. We finally left at about 12:30 after each of us had been accosted by sweaty men in button down shirts and one really old man- my guess was107!? I really should have drank A Lot more than I did, maybe it would have been better. One last thing, while I still have you attention- GUYS...Wearing a button down shirt does not make you dressed up and most girls with any taste think it looks really stupid. But if you really must- try a color other than baby blue and for god sakes- let your mom iron it for you because you're doing a really shitty job!
