headed here for some live jazz and I definitely was not disappointed. I came here with a friend for a monday night jam session. the house band was entertaining, sociable and very friendly with the crowd. they played a good mix of bebop, standards and latin jazz our hostess/waitress was also friendly and helpful. she greeted us and helped us out with the menu. although she kind of forgot about taking our order for the first ten minutes and to refill our waters when we asked, she smiled and apologized. eh she's a nice lady and was the only one helping everyone out. understood + the band helped keep our hungry, thirsty selves distracted for a bit we ordered chicken wings for the appetizer and the vegetarian combo  entree. the chicken wings were okay. a bit greasy and the ranch seemed unnecessary for the already sauce-drenched wings. the veggie dish came with a side of flatbread as well as more flatbread placed under the veggies. interesting taste i must say. somewhat zesty.. here's whats in the vegetarian combo: 1) yemisser kir wat: split red lentils in berbere sauce 2) yatakelt kilikil: veggies sauteed with peppers, onion, garlic, ginger 3) gomen: spiced greens cooked with onions and peppers 4) kik alecha: yellow split peas flavored with green peppers, onions and herbs the veggie dish was kind of a hit-and-miss. the portions are perfect for sharing; they're bunches of vegetables on flatbread. the yemisser kir wat and kik alecha were my two favorite portions of the dish. tasty, light, complemented each other. the yatakelt kilikil and gomen, on the other hand, was not for me. eh Ive never had ethiopian food before but is this stuff supposed to taste sour? spoiled? whatever it is, I didn't like it. we didn't finish these parts of the dish. everything else was okay I'm guessing patrons of Rassela's come for the live jazz rather than food of course and the jazz that night was indeed played well and I enjoyed watching locals add their flavor by singing or playing their instrument. everyone was so friendly and mingled with each other, dang what a great atmosphere

Nice spot, love the exposed brick, love the shady "rave basement," also love it when I get a seat at the bar. If you are there on a popular night prepare to get squished and sweaty. Most of my friends have mixed feelings about this place, but I can get down as long as it isn't over the top crowded. OH and they serve food. On the rare occasion I find myself eating there the food is usually decent.  Major cons are the heat, the crowd, and the crappy sound system.

I felt a bit like I was in the old boys club coming in here and seeing the antler chandeliers and black walls, but I thought the space overall was quite nice. I was here for the launch party off Sake2me a super yummy drink (you know the lightly fruity kind where you can have about 8 before you notice you're completely drunk because it's just so fruity and delicious), so I am sure that helped my perception of the place. I remember plenty of places to be able to sit and carry a conversation, and being able to retreat to the balcony (more plush seating up there) to escape the loud crowd. I'll definitely return!
