I know it looks nice as you walk by and see people on the upper level patio and waiting in line but I would avoid this place at all costs unless you like the following: - Paying $10 cover on Saturday night... in the Mission. - Getting your beer in plastic cups like you're at some fraternity sponsored event. - Getting your cocktails in tiny plastic glasses like you're at some crappy wedding reception. - Paying high prices for the above two. - Think that there is no better dance music in the world than Reggaeton... and I mean serious Reggaeton. - Enjoy partying with a few people who could be your (older) aunts and uncles. I know dance venues can be scarce in the Mission, but do yourself a favor and avoid this place. I will give it two stars for the Sky Terrace, which is best utilized for having some afterwork drinks on a summer day. The variety of booze is curtailed because of the location but that rooftop does have a great view.
by Penni Deuschel on Hmmm... I don't get why so many folks raved about this place. Maybe it used to be cool in its hey day? Maybe it would've been more fun if I were more drunk? Maybe I would've appreciated it more had it not been so easy to get in (even with half of our group being guys, no reservations, on a Sat night at around midnight)? Maybe I don't appreciate house music as much as dancing my booty off to hip hop... I don't know what would've done the trick for me but overall, I was not impressed with Cielo. Actually, my group had a great buzz going in and then we completely lost our energy after about 15-20 mins at Cielo. It didn't help that the couple dancing right next to me had horrid b.o. I can and will dance to practically any music (alright, maybe except country) but I wasn't impressed with the set on Sat night. It wasn't 'til the featured DJ went on (around 1am) that the music got better. The crowd was also unimpressive. A mix of euro-trash, young wall street, and the pre-requisite B&T types... fairly representative of the meatpacking area on wknds. I will give Cielo another try since most rateclubsers seem to like it quite a bit... but I think the next time, I'm in the mood to dance and I'm in this part of town, I'll probably opt to go elsewhere.
by Melody V. on I watched "Taking The Jesus Pill" ( http://www.takingtheje...) here and I just fell in love with this place. The bartenders are not only great people, they're not bad looking either. The ambiance of the place is definitely very cool, dark, and sexy. The acoustics in this place is amazing and I heard the club nights are awesome. My friend raves about BALANCE and I just love the set-up of this place. Street parking is available if you look and the place was packed for a live show, so I can only imagine the ensued chaos of a weeknight rendevous. Still, I think I am down to endure that chaos at something like King King. If it offered a bar night, I'd go just to do that...share a drink and just chill.
