The food here looks exactly like the food in its cookbook.  My Mexican friends also confirm that this is the best authentic Mexican food in Atlanta.  It's definitely extremely expensive, but its lunch menu is reasonably priced (similar to Zocalo's prices but much more classy and upscale than Zocalo's).  The decor is gorgeous, brightly festive, and interesting, with a 18-foot high water wall. I would recommend the $12 guacamole, which is made at the table side by a Mexican.  It is quite excellent. Very clean.  There is also a dress code: Men are not permitted to wear hats or sleeveless shirts in the dining room.  This is casual fine dining.

I would actually give this place more stars- despite the Marina transplants and their gallons of hair gel and spray tan- if it weren't for the shiteous rooftop bartenders.  I mean, these douchebags are some of the most condescending, rude and worthless people to pour a drink that I have ever encountered.  Just ridiculous. BUT... moving from the roof to the main floor, Medjool is great.  Our waiter was super nice and attentive.  The food was AMAZING (seriously, that deserved caps) and the ambiance was pretty cool.  I was surprised, but pleasantly so. Well done, Medjool.  Now if only someone would get rid of those stupid roof bartenders.

Went to see Blammos play at El Rio last night, a band of mostly Vermont to SF transplants that I used to see play separately all the time, and they were great.  OK, so this should be all about El Rio, but I wanted to give a quick shout out. El Rio is great!  Very discrete entrance into a total dive with a long bar, a pool table, a jukebox and yes Jenn, they have a shuffleboard table. If you go out the back door, there is a fenced in patio that rivals Zeitgeist, for style if not size, and from the patio you can access the little music venue.  The two part entrance is a nice touch, although likely born out of necessity.  They take money at the second door, so you don't have to pay to get into the bar.  The music space is very small and cramped feeling with low ceilings and not particularly clean or well-maintained, but I am glad that it exists. The vibe was very low-key and I definitely think this is the sort of place I could wander into for a drink after work, and find myself wondering where the night had gone when the bartender rings last call. A final point worth noting, happy hour specials last until nine!
