This is going to make me sound like an asshole, OK? I'm giving it 2 stars because it was just alright. I recall a short wait to get in and not having to pay because we'd put ourselves on the "guest list" beforehand; I recall the girl working the coat check being really nice; I recall thinking the bartender was my best friend because of all the alcohol he served with a smile. But then I also remember the 1-person bathroom, and the long wait to get to it; being thankful the music drowned out the spiel of desperate one-nighters; the DJ ignoring our requests to play better music (I didn't say it that way, but, you know); noticing that most of the seating was blocked off; and thinking the overall layout of the place was kind of narrow and somewhat cramped. I don't really see the overall appeal, unless you're just dying to dance alongside other weekend warriors to the latest Timbaland hit. Meh.

i f-in love this place. the inside is absolutely beautiful, so ornate, has great acoustics, a wrap around balcony for the birdseye view, and some good stiff drinks. and they have stella and pbr, for when you're broke and/or don't want a stiff drink. food's not bad either - often times you can pay a little more and come before the show to have dinner and secure a sweet spot. i just saw jose gonzalez there - very intimate, just him up there w/ his guitar and sweet sweet voice. but i've also seen acts like the bravery - loud, lots of movement and rockin' out, and the venue just meshes chameleon-like w/ the tunes, whoever it is, whatever type of music they play. one negative for me, one so short yet cute, standing at only 5'4" and in my older age, usually wearing low comfortable shoes to shows, i can't SEE the acts too well, the stage seems to be a little on the low side, but nowadays i ask the person in front of me (oft times a 6'6" dude) if i can stand in front of him, and they usually oblige w/ a smile. all in all, i find it to be a gem in the middle of the tenderloin craziness.
