Right off the bat the staff at Zahav won us over when we showed up and our reservation said 2 instead of 4; they were very nice about it and were able to seat us pretty quickly anyway. The waitress was very sweet and friendly, and while almost over attentive, the bussing staff kept the table clean and the waters full. We decided to go all out and get the tasting menus. It took us about 3 hours; partly because our friends were only in town for this one night and we had a lot of catching up to do; partly because we needed extra time between courses to digest and make room for more food =P Plus a healthy dose of beer and wine, it added up in the end but was totally worth it. The salatim, hummus and freshly baked laffa were kinda the best part of the meal and we were practically full enough to stop right there. (I was also just reminded that if you run out of laffa they will give you more for no extra charge!) We got 8 mezze dishes; my personal top favs were the smoked sable and butternut squash bourekas, and brussel sprouts, and the red meat eaters among us totally loved the kibbe naya. Our bottom 2 were the fried kibbe (overcooked) and crispy haloumi (too sharp). Next time I think I could even do without the grilled course; everything was fine but not as great as the stuff we'd had so far. Dessert was also yummy, but we were mostly in food comas by then. The atmosphere in the dining room is warm and comfortable even with the huge windows and high ceilings; it never got too loud either, which was also nice. To top it off, our friend really loved the Goldstar beer glasses and wanted to take one home; the manager made it happen and wished us a happy new year =)
