Whatever misguided soul told me that Ruby Skye was San Francisco's "IT" club was sadly mistaken.  In fact, the only people who think Ruby Skye is the shit are the ones that work there.  Let me tell you a little bit about my Saturday night experience at this offensive night club. My six girlfriends and I decided to have a night out on the town for my friend's birthday.  We are ranging from ages 22-26 and are no stranger to going out on the town.  We typically don't worry about waiting in line or having to pay cover, but we heard that Ruby Skye was extremely cracking and always packed so we decided to play it safe and buy our tickets ahead of time online (BIG MISTAKE!).  We arrived at Ruby Skye around 10pm.  First off, everyone waiting in line was, well, perplexingly unattractive.  But, since we already had tickets, we had high hopes that maybe the people inside this "AMAZING" club would have more to offer.  Also perplexingly, the line labeled "Will Call"/"Guest List" was 6x as long as the General Admission line.  As we had never been here before and didn't realize that apparently this is how it always is, we asked a bouncer if something was amiss.  He gruffly told us that we should get in the line labeled "General Admission" and when we questioned him because, as we had told him, we needed to pick our tickets up from will call, he got angry and yelled at us saying that "YES He was SURE that was the right line". Still somewhat wary about these contradicting instructions (bouncer vs. sign) 4 of us got into the "GA" labeled line and my gf and I got into the "Will Call line".  Fast forward 45 minutes, still in line, this girl in a leather jacket  2 people behind me reacher over this pea-coat clad braces wearing straight off the train from Salt Lake City couple and taps me on the shoulder and promptly begins screaming at my gf and I that we should be in the other line with our girlfriends and that she is going to have security kick us out.  The Salt Lake City couple quietly tried to defend us saying we were fine here, but as  lunatic-in-leather kept yelling, they decided this club wasn't for them and took their peacoats and trotted off somewhere more pg and less ridiculous.  Leather finally backed off, though the rest of the 30 minute wait remained a bit awkward with her creepily behind us.  (Note: always carry mace, I was glad i had mine then and I was certainly glad I had it later too- but we'll get to that). My 4 gf's in the other line made it to the front of the line and motioned for us to join.  We joined them only to be told that the bouncer had told us the wrong line and that it was our fault and we would have to get into the back of the 200+ person line (by this time it's 11:50).  When we refused to leave because HELLO we'd waited a ridiculous amount of time and had ALREADY paid.  Then this angry black bouncer who looked something of a mix between a black panther and one of the mean machete-machine gun waving Hotel Rwanda bad guys.  He started SCREAMING at us to get out and either go back in line or leave.  He continued to rant and rave and insult our intelligence and chastise us UNTIL I literally burst into tears.  At this point, the manager came over and seeing me crying and not wanting everyone in line to be super weirded out instantly gave us free drink coupons and let us get our tickets from will call and go into the club.  By this time- I HATED Ruby Skye. The worst part came when we actually entered the club and realized that it's super small, playing shitty trance music (their website has better music than their live "artists").  The entire club reminds me of what you'd find if you went to some underground nightclub/rave in Slovakia.  Everyone in the club was either old, asian, or creepy Eastern European.  The only plus to Ruby Skye is that they do at least make their drinks pretty stiff. Oh yea and when you leave the club- you will get bombarded by scary ass ghetto homeless people and gang bangers that will holler at you and chase you home.  Also, the taxi drivers will not take you anywhere unless it's at least a mile so get ready to walk (did I say walk?  I mean run for you lives) back to your hotel that's 4 blocks away.

Women beware...this place is always full of pervs.  everytime I go, someone in my group (including myself) gets molested by some freak who cops a feel while you're in the crowd.  i find this not only offensive, but pathetic for some guy (you know who you are) to be so disrespectful in public, in the dark, to maximize your  chances of getting away with it. the place always gives a pretty good show, i'll give them that.  the headliners are usually pretty brand name...but also mainstream. covers are usually really expensive...they like to get you to prepurchase tickets online.  i've gotten emails saying tickets are ONLY $50...it's a recession people!  if they charge that much, you'd think they could afford to give the place an update and hire more security.  other than the bouncers outside (which is far from the dance floor where groping incidents are most prominent), i don't see any. i hope the owners read this and take it to heart...it's a great venue in an unbeatable location...raise the bar a little - you've got lots of potential.

*sigh* It's kinda sad that asian nights are like this in NY(friday night), but what the hell, I didn't have to wait in line to get in so i can't complain.  The line was ridiculously long and I couldn't believe people actually waited to get in. I just got outta my cab and walked to the front of the line and went in. Suckas! j/k Venue is just...bleh.... people are definitely just...blah. Music was ok.
