Thought it'd be a chill night, but ended up getting my wallet, credit cards, license, and cash stolen right out of the purse hanging on my shoulder!!!!! The only reason why I found out is because my coworker's gf got her wallet stolen the same night! Ladies, watch your purses! And to top it off, when I reported it to the bouncer he said "you could've put it in coat check..." are you kidding me!?!? Check my purse into coat check? Will definitely not be going back to this place again unless I actually want to get all my stuff stolen again...
by Ling H. on This is my second time at the Academy after renovation and I must say that I LOVE this place! Combining both science and nature, I'm THERE. There is so much to see you can spend a good 3-4 hours here taking it all in. My FAV. exhibit? The dome rainforest hands down. There is so much going on in this three story ecosystem with beautiful butterflies fluttering around as you take it all in. And don't forget to check out those HUGE and grotesque looking ants at the end on the first floor. Grotesque, but strangely intriguing. The aquarium is also one of my favorites. Notes: 1) Free Wachovia Wednesdays on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. Be prepared to wait anywhere between 10 minutes-3 hours! 2) If you live in the SF area, they also have free days based on zip codes on their website. 3) They have Thursday nightlife for 21+. Something I still definitely need to check out. Before you leave, don't forget to say hi to Bonnie, the Academy's resident albino alligator.
by Steve Longbrake on I really really like this place. It's lively without being overcrowded. The music was good, the food was good, the drinks were reasonable, and I like that it feels really intimate. Like you are in your own secret world.
