I guess I'll take this Friday-night-in to write my review for Griffin: My gfs from Miami/UF paid a visit during Memorial Day wknd. With my former clubbing partners in crime with me once again, the wknd quickly turned into a whirlwind of *Non-stop Aggressive Rallying*, which I had been mentally preparing myself for since the girls informed me of their plans. Griffin was the first stop on this NYC club tour. DISCLAIMER: "Clubbing in Meatpacking" is NOT my usual to-do on the wknds. "Clubbing" in general is NOT my usual to-do on the wknds. I live in WBurg for crying out-loud. My g/fs were already in by the time my g/f & I got there and before we could form the Awesome 4some, we had a bit of a "fight" w/ the doorman....but that's his job. Once inside: HUGE chandelier (worth gajillions, yes gajillions)...HUGE...drinks are ridiculously expensive (buying a cpl & having a cpl bought for me helped). A good club night is nothing w/out a great DJ - and this DJ was AMAZING. The right songs at the right time, mix of pop & hip hop, and fun surprise oldies, but goodies. It's good to know that I've still got the moves and the guts to dance by myself on the stage...something about dancing under the gajillion $$$ chandelier makes you feel like a bajillion bucks. Two things will bring back: 1) if I know someone there that has a bottle and 2) if i'm guaranteed no hassle at the door, b/c yes as the other reviews state, its a bitch to get inside if you 1) do not know anyone; 2) if your group is too big; 3) if you aren't buying a ridiculously expensive bottle/s; or 4) if you are (sad to say it) not presentable or up to their "meatpacking standards." That was Friday at Griffin minus all the shenanigans that happened before/during/after, just the facts....Saturday: Marquee.....care to join? Might as well write-up that review now....nothing better to do, but play another game of solo Scrabble.

I'm starting to think that clubbing in Hollywood may not be my thing. The dance floor-- or the tiny area in the middle-- is really very tiny. The mood inside is very cozy but feels more like a lounge than a club. I know club experiences really reflects mainly on who's throwing the party but my experience at Green Door is really just meeeh. It's a club people! Start dancing! One of my personal pet peeves is when people go to the club, stand in the MIDDLE of the dance floor for 5 minutes and decides to push their way through. Why go clubbing if you don't want to dance?! Also the DJ played old school music-- I'm talking about so old school that I can't even recognize the songs. The crowd seems to be a bit snooty-- men in Ed Hardy and girls looking a little plastic. You won't be finding me back at Green Door anytime soon--definitely not where the party's at!

MONDAY NIGHT - this is one of my favorite places to go for the sole reason that is seems that most of the crowd comes here to DANCE!!! - minimal pretentiousness, maximal fun - music is great - drinks are expectedly pricey... its nyc - small-ish floor, but not 2 bad.. im going to see steve lawler there this friday... im not sure what to expect as far as crowd space... - consistently good... i could not come back for months, and its still poppin... - 5 stars because the positives totally outweigh the negatives...
