This place is gorgeous and HUGE. I was expecting a small little jazz club but its a huge venue. I came here last night for Talib Kweli's DJ set. I'll be honest I'm not even sure when he was spinning or if he was even there, but they were playing some good music. I spent most of the time in the upstairs area. There's a bar and a sitting area as well as a huge glass window overlooking the dance floor downstairs. You can clearly see the DJs. I think I saw Talib? I'm not sure! Drinks are priced about the same as any bar. They serve everything in plastic cups. I ordered a Stella and it came in two cups. It was a bit annoying trying to make my way through the crowd with two full cups of beer. Beer was spilled but no hard feelings. Lastly, bathrooms were clean. Which is always great :)

In many American cities, if while at a club with elbow room, if the music is remotely good, at a certain point the generic crowd sway emerges from the cocoon and the crowd begins to dance. So familiar is this phenomenon, that Kevin Bacon's whole career is built around this shared experience. New York bureaucracy was not making money that way though, and through the cabaret license, made dancing an elusive activity to pursue. Ladies and gentleman- Greenhouse is your place. Not only is it green (woop!), but on a recent Sunday night the crowd DJ was mixing old school and new dance hits, and the crowd responded to the call. Now, my review may me slightly more favorable due to the fact that me and my friend got called out of the basement area, and got escorted upstairs, bypassing the $25 cover charge. I will say its much cooler (temperature wise) in the upstairs area, and with greater access to the bar tender and the bathrooms. Either way, the dancing is good though.

At first I was totally confused by the reviews here. Then I realized what's different about my experience vs. everyone else's: I GO FOR LUNCH. It never even occurred to me to come here just for drinks. I love their fish and chips and the shepherd's pie, it's better than any of the stuff I had in London (apparently British people cannot make British food properly, unless it's actually supposed to taste like crap).
