I have never set foot on this nightclub, since I live on the other side of the country, but I can give you an insight about their operation. About 3 months ago, I started receiving text messages from this night club, telling me about their promotions. First couple of times, I didn't bother to read, I was busy. But I started receiving at least 3 of them each weekend, so I texted back STOP, which is supposedly stop the messages. Didn't take, next week I continue receiving messages, I texted STOP twice to make sure, but to no avail. I thought there was a problem with the unsubscribe system, so I gave them a call, and kindly requested them to take me out of their list. They said that it will be taken care of. And guess what? Next week they sent even more SMS's my way. So I givie them a call again, this time a bit angrier, but still quite polite comparing with their standards. They said they will take care of it. I got their messages last week, and this Monday, I give them a call, this time saying that if I receive one more text message, I will pursue legal action if I received one more text message. And surprise! I got one just today. So basically, their operation is not much different than that of Capital One's or Directv's. Absolutely without class. They acquire your phone number illegally, and they relentlessly text you to the point that you open up a rateclubs account, fuming, to tell about your story. If you are reading this and support this sort of behavior, go ahead, party all night long.

This location has quite a history. Originally it was bulit as a nightclub during WW2 and was called Joe Ferrara's Trocadero. Joe Ferrara was a Wise Guy out of Providence, Rhode Island and at one time he owned the entire city block where this property is located from Arguello to Stanyon on the front to Lorainne St. in back...with the exception of the Coronet Theater & the Columbarium. Joe lost it all to fast women & slow horses.  The club was one of the largest in the city and featured big bands and popular singers of the day. After hours...all the politicans, Judges, and the movers and shakers woud be found in the bar, drinking bourbon out of coffee cups & "slicing the pie" The adjacent Pizza joint was part of the club and the present bar was twice as long & used to snake into the next room. From the bar area you can see where the semi-circular curtain used to seperate the bar from the club area. If you look up to the ceiling area in the bar you will see a circle...this was the vent for a huge inverted cone shaped fireplace that was there for many years. If you go the the San Francisco Public Library historical photo section and under clubs...type in the Trocadero...you will see a photo from that time. Then it was Z's Bountiful Buffet for many years and the banquet rooms were where the pizza joint is now. Then it was Carlos & Poncho's for years until the board of health shut them down. Several other venues followed and all failed. Now the really interesting part! The establishment is built over what used to be the Odd Fellows Cemetery....and NO they never really removed all the bodies. Sometimes there just wasn't much to remove. The joint is haunted . In the old days pots and pans would sometimes fly around the kitchen and items would be found where they were not left. Sometimes people walk through cold spots and feel if their souls have been touched. As you walk through the front door and to your immediate right are stairs that climb up to what used to be the ladies room. A woman was murdered up there in the late 40's and she was found with her throat cut from ear to ear. The crime was never solved and she was never identified. She was called the French Lady because she wore a Barette. She is sometimes seen late at night coming down the stairs as an oval cloudy smokey mist. I have never had a drink at the establishment's incarnation as PT's because Whitey isn't exactally greeted with big smiles when he walks through the door. I give the place 5 stars for it's history only.

We had a wonderful birthday dinner on the other side of the building and decided to have some post dinner drinks at Harlot. Approaching the velvet- roped entrance preventing anyone from just walking in, we asked on which way can we go in. We were responded by Matt the security guard with, "That depends whether I let you in" So we asked, "Do you want us to come in?" He came back with the same response. Of course he was insistent of being the gate keeper and being the decider of who gets in. Mind you we were 4 nicely dressed gay men, think Prada and Hermes, and not some trash from the street and it was really early in the evening. After some back and forth with Mr. Gatekeeper, we decided not to not pursue it and take our money elsewhere. I would never come back strictly for the total lack of customer service that greets you at the door. Update 7/22 After posting this initially, we were invited back by management. Apparently Matt no longer works there. On our return, the door man was really friendly. Inside, the design was really thought out particuarly the lighting. The paintings appear to glow as much as the amber pendants with really long fillaments. The color-cycling LCD behind the DJ booth sort of didn't fit in as it was going through too many colors. There weren't that many people as we just came from dinner and it was really early in the evening so I can't really comment about the crowd.
