First of all, big ups to the Beauty Bar for hosting the Rock N Swap event, which was a pretty cool. It was actually kinda fun watching new vintage clothes being hoisted onto tables and bunches of ladies (including myself) pounce onto them to try to find the gems. I liked the patio area, and the inside was... interesting. I assume it would be cooler to hang out in if it was not filled with a bunch of tables of clothing. The negatives? They were PUMPING the heat into the place, which along with the clothes that some people didn't bother washing, made the place smell like a mix between ass and halitosis. The bartenders were alright, but nothing to write home about. I'd not be opposed to coming back on a regular night and giving the dance floor a try, but I don't know if I'd be the one pushing to come here.

Definitely a very fun place to be if you're super drunk.. which I was on the night that I went. As far as I can remember, everyone was fun and the music was good for dancing. If you're a girl, you will also meet a lot of nice, rich men willing to share their bottle service with you. If that's what you're into, then this is the place for you. Some negatives were the guy Alex up front was a douche and turned a lot of people away, and it was so packed I had to constantly go into the hallway to get some air. All in all, I had a good time and will probably go back soon.

I was teetering on whether I should give this place 3 or 4 or 5 stars. I might still be drunk from my 4 days of celebrating, so hell, let's be generous. The other night I ventured out of the city into Central Square. Before that, hubby and I had a bottle of wine at home. Then we had 4-5 cocktails at Cuchi Cuchi, and then I wanted to get my groove on, so we decided on Middlesex. Having heard about it and read so much about it, I wasn't sure if I was going to love it or hate it. Walking there, we found two things I vowed never to do again 8 years ago: wait in line to get into a bar, and pay cover to get into a bar. It was my birthday, so I made an exception. We waited maybe 15mins, and when we walked in I was expecting something other than what I saw. It's just one, square boring room. I mean, I wasn't expecting private cubby holes and stage dancers, but after all the raving I've heard about, I definitely thought there'd be more to it than just an empty space. There were 2 things I noticed immediately. 1) The music. It frickin ROCKS. 2) Elaine Benis. There was a girl in my path to the bar that made Elaine look like Jennifer Lopez. I knew instantly that it was going to be a fantastic night. We belly up to the bar and wait. And wait. And wait. We finally get noticed and hubby goes to order 2 beers, and I said - please, I'm not waiting again, just get 4 at least. So double-fisted, we made our way to sit for a minute. I thought Elaine was going to be the highlight. But noooooo she was not. Had I known that the seat I chose was going to be right in front of the ultimate entertainment, I would've thrown some elbows to ensure my spot right up front. There is no explaining this guy and his moves. I couldn't decide if he was a figure skater, or on speed, or a funky combination of both with some other good stuff thrown in. Hubby and I shared more than a few laughs, and then come to find out, his friend is sitting next to us. And then she started hitting on me. It was indeed a fantastic night. After we threw back our 2 beers each, we got a couple more and set out to the floor. Next thing I know, we're making out like we're in the basement of some fraternity house. There is definitely something special in the air at Middlesex.
