reading the reviews i think we might have came on an off night. the concept of the restaurant seems pretty cool. they literally had a woodfire grill from which you could see the chefs cooking the meat and then there were other plates coming from their real kitchen. we made reservations and the service was great. we ordered the chefs 5 course tasting - $65 each but was not amazed by the plates that were placed in front of me. i do like how their menu changes to serve what is in season. perhaps i need to go again and update this review then..

Oh, the days I could down three cocktails and walk straight... and now, I take a sip of my friend's lemon drop and I'm good. No fault of Martuni's, mind you! I'm just not a cocktail kind of guy now. But in the days that I was, Martuni's was a favorite of mine. PROS: 1. Good, STIFF cocktails at supersize me servings 2. Great ambience, good crowd and its lively and fun, and lighting is moody and dim 3. The piano is a welcome addition and so is the singing... though there are times when you just want to go "Who unleashed the harpie?"... ok! smack my karma! 4. It's a great gathering place and folks are friendly 5. Staff is friendly and quick CONS: 1. If they served food or appetizers... they'd double their patrons 2. If you don't get there in time or have someone save you a seat, you can be left hanging Other than that, it's a great place, a SF institution and you can't miss the blinking neon sign outside!

How disappointing! This is the only bowling alley below 42nd st and it is bad. Because they basically have a monopoly, they can charge whatever they want for a game, which is a lot. BUt they know that they can make a lot more money from getting drunk twenty and thirty somethings to come and bowl than from serious bowlers, so most of the place it taken up by the bar and lounge area, which is kind of neon and neat but expensive. THe lanes are the worst I have ever bowled on bar none, I don't think they've been waxed in years, seriously (my ball comes back with crud on it) BTW you wax your lanes daily if you know what you're doing. It's hard to navigate the place with two unlabled floors. IF you want to bowl and drink, this place is okay, but if you're serious about bowling don't waste your time.
